Hi, go to wikipedia.com and search on the Persian Empire. I believe that the 2,500 plus years of being a powerful force in the Middle East is one of the forces driving present day Iranian leaders. In addition the history of the region has always included a fight over the control of oil since WW1. Any thoughts on this interpretation?

Iranians haven't been a powerful empire for many, many, many years. By the 19th century, they were a backwards, medieval state with no written laws, ruled by absolute monarchs who considered themselves to be shadows of God on earth.

Iran does have oil, but it doesn't refine the oil itself. It sells the oil to foreign companies who then refine it and sell it back to Iran. Instead of developing this resource themselves, Iranian leaders are now concerned with developing nuclear technology, simply because everyone says they are not allowed to. They have become the naughty children of the world schoolyard.

Nothing is "driving" the Iranian leaders as you put it...Iran, wants to have nuclear facilities like MANY other countries INCLUDING the States...Why shouldn't they be able to have it? So, only America is alowed to have bombs, nuclear power and weapons of mass destruction? That is ridiculous!
I see no problem in Iran having weapons and Nuclear Power, I don't fear they will missuse them in any way...
The Iranian Leaders aren't stupid like everyone is making them out to be. They are EXTREMELY Intelligent, and America is DYING to go to war with them...Looking for any little thing so they can start bombing...Iran isn't getting in the way of anything...They just want the same facilities and nuclear power as any other country...

Read the book "The Persian Puzzle" if you want some serious insight. It's relatively current and interesting.

I think the primary factor driving Iran is FOX news. We Americans don't even know the tip of the iceberg on this one.
