because some people like to be creative & do it themselves!!! i`m sure loads of people make mistakes, but then again lots of people do it & everything turns out well!!! i prefer to do it myself, because i enjoy it & it does save money (i cut & color my hair frequently)...however, i did train in cosmetology & also worked at a salon in london when i was abroad, so i probably have a bit of an edge...

I have gone to hair stylists I trusted for years, and then they go off on a tangent. I have been to top-notch salons and had hit or miss episodes with color disasters. Even pros have their "bad days." I don't like paying $90 for color and having blotches or too dark of dyes applied, when I can do it at home for $5 and use color from Sally's that I know works. Most of the time I get a good outcome from a salon, but sometimes it's a really bad outcome bc they dripped dye, or did bold chunks instead of natural highlights. Stylists by their natures are creative people, so they like to play with the options. They forget sometimes what a client wants. After all the client is paying for the service. If I want my hair cut 2" instead of 7" I tell them and they should honor that!
That's why.

"For every ones budget" doesn't really apply to everyone. A $10 box of hair color is a bit better than going to some salon and having it cost $50 just because of a better brand name and then realizing the stylist didn't really understand what you wanted and messed it up anyway. Hmm. Depends on the salon and the workers, and what you're actually doing to your hair anyway.

when diy is out of my budget, how can you say theres a salon for everyone?
tub of bleach that lasts over a year - $20
developer - $2
dye that lasts months - $15
getting bleached at the salon - $40
getting hair dyed at salon (which lasts a couple weeks opposed to a few months) - $50
(and those are cheap quotes)
see the difference?
besides, i can do better patterns and colour combos then the salon people can. i get people, even estheticians, asking me where i got my hair done.

It's easier and cheaper no matter what! You dont have to make an appointment and if you are good you can get really nice results. $20 tops for 2 boxes of color (the avg amount needed).... tell me where I can go get my hair done for that price and then I will agree to your point. Until then you are very wrong.

Because it really is cheaper.
Plus, sometimes the less expensive salons are lower quality.
Sometimes it's worth it (unless you're getting highlights or something more complex) to spend $6 on dye-in-a-box.
Different strokes ...

Because cheap salons use bad materials and tools that's beside their own profit. So people tend to get medium price tools better than spoiling their hair & spending money.

I put color on my hair, every 6 to 8 weeks, for 3 bucks.
Works for me.

because some people know what they are doing and find it easier that way. Plus some people can't shell out the cash to go get their hair dyed. Yep, i'm one of those.
