In the US when you get a facial peircing, do you have to buy the (in my case) captive bead ring from the piercer, or can you use your own? thanks!

Generally the cost of piercings includes jewelry, appropriate style and size for the piercing. It not always a CBR (depending on the piercing it can be curved barbells, labret studs, nose screws).

Usually piercers provide you with jewelry because its quality jewelry and it has been autoclaved. If you bring in your own jewelry the piercer may refuse to use on the basis they cannot be sure what its made of and because it has not be autoclaved. Some piercers may just charge you a small fee to clean the jewelry before they use it. If you want the best answer to this, you should contact the piercer you plan to have do your piercings and ask him or her.

As a professional piercer, I never use jewelry that people bring in because I cannot trust what its made of or where it came from to know if its of good quality. But regaurdless, jewelry options should be explained before the piercing is done. There are usually two or three best choices for any given piercing and your piercer and you should talk about that.

coming from someone with multiple piercings who's experienced what it's like to get some bad quality jewelry... it's recommended to let your piercer supply the jewelry. after all, they do know what's best. i've become experienced over the years with picking out quality pieces but a few months ago ended up with some that was, to put it mildly, not so great. an accident on my part but the outcome was definitely not worth the saved couple bucks. if you end up with a cheap quality material then you could have a serious reaction to it.

It's included in the price of the piercing. Most studios will not allow you to bring in your own jewelry, as we can't be sure of the quality or you may buy the wrong size/gauge.

I think it differs on the piercer. IF you brought your own ring in though, I'm sure they could clean it and use it. Just ask.
