I am really sorry to hear about that. Sometimes chemo takes 3 lots of treatments or even more, depending on how they are fighting back the cancer. You need to be strong and I hope everything goes well.

He will have a PEG (a tube) inserted into his stomach so that you or somebody else can feed him once he is in the 4th week of radiation treatment. He better talk to a diat expert about what and how often he needs feeding every day until the day the PEG is removed. Then he can orally have soup and soft boiled eggs for 2-4 weeks before he can start on baby food, gradually increasing the coarseness of meals, however be prepared for a change in taste and other side effect from his treatment that in most cases includes chemo-+radiation therapy( up to 70GX) He won't like any alcohol anymore.

I wish you and your brother the best of luck first of all. Next from my experience with family members it depends on the individual as far as how early and how bad side effects will be. If he has loss of appetite and bad nausea there is a prescription available called Marinol to help combat those. It is a synthetic but legal form of THC taken in tablet form throughout the course of treatment. It did wonders for my mother.

I assume you mean he will have six weeks of chemotherapy, and it is great that you want to help him out. Side effects generally will start in immediately, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, hair loss, severe fatigue, low immune system response are all possible depending on the drugs they will use to treat him. He will need to avoid crowds, get as much rest as possible, drink lots of fluids and maintain his nutrition.

from my limited understanding it depends on the individual's reaction to the chemo or whatever. Some people get very sick, can't eat, no strength while others seem to be able to get through it fine with little side effects.
I hope he does well. Just be there for him.
