Its funny to see how many people on here obviously are not bilingual. The reason why this whole english only thing is in place is because people feel threatened by everyone else.

Native Americans can be traced on this continent over 5000 years ago, can the English or any other european country say that? The Vikings, Spanish, English and French all found this continent already occupied. The English were the first to have permanent settlements here, and thats when the trouble all began...The French first settled in what is now Canada, the Spanish in the southeast along with some French settlements.
I have no idea where people get the English were here first idea, written history disproves that.

Spain was in the Americas before the English, but not in the USA, at least not they way it is now. Spaniards killed most of the Central American, South American and the Caribbean indians, stole everything they could, imposed their language, their culture and their religion on the indians that had the luck to survive. But, while the Native Americans, although they went through a similar situation, have seen their land turned into the first world, the most powerful nation, the envy of many around the world, and the "promised land" for many more, the Spanish speaking countries are third world and merely banana republics. So, ask your personal pride which one do you want to represent....

The Native Americans were indeed here before the English, but that has nothing to do with the Spanish...

Multi-lingual country, I say. If the arrogant want to say that English is the only language that should be spoken/learned, let them fall behind. Bilinguals (or multilinguals) will take there jobs, travel to more foreign countries, learn more, make diverse friends, etc. Besides that I can they can go on being monolingual, monocultural, monosyllabic.

When the Spanish speakers can take the land and change the Constitution to Spanish, then they can have it their way.
Until then...The Constitution is in English, so should the language of the land.
