Okay, my fiance and I LOVE the cupcake wedding cake idea. Then we could have the chocolate (which I like) and the white (which he likes) and wouldn't have the hassel of having to transport a huge cake, plus the price is more reasonable. However both sets of parents plus a woman who refers to herself as my half mom say it's a silly idea, so what is everyone elses opinion? BTW we are getting married around Halloween.

I'm having a cupcake wedding cake with mini cupcakes at my wedding, so I would have to say that I love the idea ;-)

They are small enough to pop in your mouth, that way we don't have to worry about the heavy cake being transported and possibly dropped, and the time consumption and mess of cutting each piece.

Our guests will be able to grab one or two at a time and enjoy themselves without the hassle of forks and plates.

Congratulations!!

I've been to many weddings and have seen this once and I tell you it was beautiful and I will always remember those cupcakes. They married in the Fall and the cupcakes had either brown or orange icing and each had a fall type flower on top of them. It was lovely. You should definitely do it. People will remember and I'm sure will like the idea too. (sometimes the older generation see things different and think you should have the traditional "cake," but they'll get over it when everyone comments at your wedding, "oh, what a cute idea!" Congratulations!

I love it too!!! I think the cupcake wedding tower idea is sooo cute!! It's a great way to get everything you want into your wedding cake... like having two flavors!!! Alot of people who believe in old fashion traditions think you need a "Regular" cake, but I say go for it!! If you and your fiancee like the idea and that's what you want do it!!! It is amazing how gorgeous they can make the cupcakes.... also.. if you're worried about what you can cut into.. many bakeries will make a small round layer that's kinda hidden into the cupcake tower so you can cut it.. and smash it =) into each other!!! I love the idea!!! Do what you want!!!!

I kinda like the idea myself! And heck...you could probably have even more flavors than just I would imagine. It's your wedding, you should be able to pick what you want to do.

On a side note, when my aunt got married, she had a cake made...well, the day of the wedding, we were at the hall setting up (my family made all the food besides the cake) and when the cake was brought and being assembled, it was discovered that it was moldy on the bottom.

If the cake flavor is the problem, you know you can get a 2-3 tier wedding cake with different flavors and fillings, right? Mine had 3 tiers: chocolate with fudge filling, chiffon with a layer of lemon and raspberry mousse, and a 3rd tier with vanilla cake and a cherry filling. Usually the bakery does the delivery and set-up as part of the service.

Brides are doing all kinds of things in place of a traditional wedding cake, (cupcakes, donuts, pie) but for me, there was something wonderful about cutting into our wedding cake that a cupcake just wouldn't do.

I think it is a really cute idea! Right now cupcakes are all the rage - they have cupcake bakeries now just in case people weren't sure.

I also think it's great because like you said you both like different types of cake - plus your guests will probably feel the same. Chocolate or vanilla ... if you don't like it then you have to skip it. And let's face it - the cake is the best part! haha

Do what you and your groom feel is good for you.

It's a way cute concept. But a lot of people don't get it. How do you cut the cupcake like tradition says you have to do with a cake!? I think it's cool and unique but if you are having a traditional wedding you should have a traditional cake. Plus the cupcakes don't seem to flow well with a night or elegant wedding theme. But it's your wedding so do what you want to do!

WE ARE DOING A CUPCAKE WEDDING CAKE, TOO!!
Can you tell I'm excited? I have 2 weeks to go, and I've been dying to see this creation!!

The reason that I love doing cupcakes so much is that we can have so many different flavors! In fact, we're doing 6!

1. Vanilla cupcakes, vanilla buttercream, red roses
2. French vanilla, vanilla buttercream, red roses & mini white flowers.
3. Red velvet, chocolate buttercream, red roses
4. Mint chocolate chip, chocolate buttercream, crushed red andes mints on top
5. Banana nut cupcakes, vanilla frosting, sprinkled nuts
6. Mocha, mocha buttercream, coffee beans on top

It was so much cheaper to go with cupcakes.
It's only $8 per dozen which equals out to about 66 cents per cupcake compared to $1.75 a slice for cake, and the serving sizes are bigger with the cupcakes!

Our baker even threw in a free anniversary layer for us!

I absolutely can not wait!

Cupcakes is a great idea!!! If you are the on epaying for it then you should be able to do what you like in every aspect of your wedding day. If your parents or his parents are paying for the wedding or for the cake then they should have a say in it. If they don't like your idea and they are paying then they can fork over the extra cash but if you and your future hubby are paying and this is what you want... Stand up for yourselfs and go for it!

Congrats and Good Luck!

If you are in the mood to compromise you could do the cupcakes and a small elegant wedding cake for the look and memory. If not go with the cupcakes it is the new thing that alot of people seem to be doing. Another idea is I am doing different falvored cheesecakes for my SIL bday based on a wedding cake design we saw at:
