I thnk that people have a serious misconception about what it means to take the Lord's name in vain. Chritians are constantly calling down nonbelievers for using God's name with an explative- though I do not like to hear this- and I believe that a nonbeliever should have a little more consideration and respect- this does not offend me nearly as much as one who calls themself a Chritian and behaves rudely, deals dishonestly and is hateful towards others.
A good example of taking the Lord's name in vain is the (grr- I can't remember their name) family that pickets soldiers funerals- they are calling themselves representatives of God, carrying His name- yet behaving in a way that is totally contradictory to the Lord's character. I really believe this is what God meant by not taking His name in vain- do not call yourelf according to the name of the Lord, stand under His banner and justify your actions by saying it is for Him and act in such a reprehensible manner.
Do not take on the name of the Lord- (all believers shall be called by his name) and then disrespect, disobey and ignore His commands.
I think taking God's name in vain is a much more serious thing than sayingthe title god and using an explative.
Though, those athiests and nonbelievers that feel we should all respect each others beliefs, should practice what they preach and out of respect, not say such things.

You are taking something dirty and disgusting like crap and saying it is holy. This is insulting to the Lord, because he is the only one who is truly holy and by His power is the only one who can make anything or anyone else holy. This is insulting to the character of the Lord and would be considered blasphemous.

I would say it is not taking the Lord's name in vain but that does not mean there is nothing wrong with saying it.

No. Holy isn't a name. Just means "Set apart". You're not even taking the name in vain with you say godd@mn... as "God" is not a name... it's a job description.
