There are several people spoken of as "son of God" in the Old Testament. And in the New Testament even Jesus says that we are all "sons of God" through faith in him. (Read John 1:12.
What made Jesus unique is that he was also God the Son. Unlike any of us, he existed in the equality with God before his birth. Paul explains it in Philippians 2:5-11. Paul says that Jesus was equal with God, but choose not to keep that position. He gave it up and become a servant. In that position is when he assisted God in the creation of everything (See John 1:1-5), was there when Adam and Eve were created (see Genesis 1:26) Appeared to Abraham (See John 8:56-58). And made many other appearances as a servant to his Father.
He then went a step further, according to Paul, and took on the form of a human and was found as a man. That story is told in the Gospels. During that time, he walked as a human, and did everything he did using only the powers that were available to any other human - prayer, fasting, faith, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, etc. He showed that it was possible to totally overcome temptation and sin, and live a perfect live, using nothing but the tools God gave us all.
He then was further obedient to God and gave his perfect life on the cross so it could pay off the debt that everyone else owed to him. Because of that, he was raised again, and now sits at the right hand of God the Father. It is Jesus that every tongue must acknowledge is the Lord and to him that every knee must bow.
That is how he is different from the rest. We, through faith, can become sons of God. He always was and always will be. But he is more than that. He is also God the Son.

The sons of God in the Old Testament refers to the angels. Jesus on the other hand is the only begotten Son of God and comes from the Father. The Father and the Son are one in the same. Jesus is God and has authority over all the angels and all the universe. Jesus is called the Son of God because this is God's title when He took on flesh and lived on this earth. While on earth, Jesus worshiped the Father and even put Him above Him. He did this to show us an example of how we too are suppose to act toward God, even though he was equivalent with God the Father.

Good question! There are men in the NEW testament that are called son of god, jesus himself refers to one as son of god. It isnt different at all. People have rewritten the bible so many times they dont have a clue as to what the truth should be. Jesus is a prophet of god who didnt die and will return to kill the antichrist.

"Israel" the nation, is also called God's begotten. King David (Psalms) is also called God's begotten. The term "Son of Man" is given to some of the prophets (I believe Ezekiel is one of those called "Son of Man") Then in Numbers it says that God himself says that he is not "a man lest he would lie, nor the son of man lest he should have to repent"... which links in with the verses that all men are liars (if God is a man, he would have to accept his own words on all men being liars... he would have to include himself) and that all have sinned, fallen short, etc... and therefore needs to repent of it. "Son of God" is also used in Genesis for those who had "lain with the daughters of men"... where we get the idea that angels slept with human women and had children - Nephilim.
The New Test writers tried to make the story of Jesus as unique as possible, yet still linked it to the Old Test. They didn't quite make it... though I'm sure many followers will say that it is unique, but that only proves to me they don't study their own Holy Book as deeply as they try to claim.

Not sure where you have seen that in the old testament, but Christ Himself represents the "new covenant" from God which is the New Testament. Christ literally being a part of God.

Jesus was and is the Word of God. The entire bible speaks of Jesus as God's only Son. One example:
John 1:11In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2The same was in the beginning with God.
3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

OK, I got the verses for you. Note the difference between "Son of God" (bar Elah) and "sons of God" (ben Elohim). The first is the singular "God" to the singular "Son". The second is the plural Trinity "God[s]" to the plural "sons".
"Son of God" is a title for the Christ. The sons of god (ben-Elohim) are angels (Job 1:6, Luke 20:36). Despite the popular thinking, we are not all "sons of God". We are "God's creation", yes, but to be called "son" requires adoption--which comes through belief in Jesus.
Galatians 3:26
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:15
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
