There's a free application called Switch that allows you to convert WMA to MP3.

There are plenty of free and open source applications for Mac OS X that do this. Just do a Google search for "wma mp3 converter Mac OS X".

Actually, you could just try VersionTracker.

I suspect there's free software out there! I had a similar situation, when I wanted to build free ringtones. I have some .wav but the phone needs .mp3. A fellow here said just Google "wav to mp3" which I did and found several.
