Does anyone know where I can get a 1969 Dodge charger for 2,000 or under. It doesn't need to be in fantastic condition.

The best place to go to is Ebay motors.....you'd be surprised on what is in there. The auto traders are sometimes helpfull, but I'm always finding chargers on ebay......good luck!

Am I correct in guessing you like the car and you want one, but prices are scaring you?

If that's the case, maybe coming down to reality would be better? These cars are somewhat pricey, and to restore one will be a proposition that is much more expensive than buying one all done up.

If you insist, however, please keep in mind the number of models available.

The base Charger was available with everything from the Slant Six to the 383-4. In-between are the 318 (the most common engine) and the 383-2.

The Charger R/T came standard with the 440-4 and had the 426 Hemi optional. These are priced out of reach for the average guy.

There were two NASCAR specials - the 500 and the Daytona. Ditto engine-wise to the R/T, and same for prices.

There was an SE package that added some trim, such as leather trimming to the seats.

Your best bet is to find a car that's missing the data plate under the hood. This shows how the car was originally equipped. Cars missing this are missing a part of their pedigree, so it helps you as a bargaining chip. I say this with the assumption that you don't care about how a car was equipped originally and you just want to fix it up to suit your own tastes. As a purist, I would suggest to maintain the integrity of any car equipped with a 383-4 on up, although there are some permutations of the lesser cars (like the 6 with a 3-speed) that are extremely rare.

Good luck!

check out hemmings.com for sale listings....you can subscribe to it or pick up an issue at larger magazine racks in bookstores, etc. 2000.00 won't buy much these days as these classics are in big demand and most that sell for that area of price need lots of work. Wish I still had my old R/T 440... that was a great car!

if you find one that cheap you are a lucky man. it's gettig harder and harder to find a charger in any shape for under 5 grand. I know of a numbers matching 440 car that recently sold for 10,000 grand it it need a full resto as it was rough and rusted.
