We would of had many more hydroelectric dams in than we do now ,but the environmentalist raised a big noise about a little fish .

Well hydroelectric is renewable obviously. In some areas like arid climates it will create a reservoir of water that can be used by people for recreation or water source for crops and drinking water. It is a quiet source of electricity, which is good for anyone living around it. It is pollution free. If your looking for bad things about it, it damages the river ecosystem and also doesn't last forever since the lake will fill in and render the dam worthless.
