Is this guy THE BOSS? or general manager? Do you have a copy of your actual time cards? He's playing you. Fast food places have profit to labor percentages that they have to meet in order to make money. When labor digs into profit, they just usually send people home early. This KFC is violating a number of state and federal laws. You must be paid for hours worked. If this "boss" isn't the general manager, go to that person. If he is, it's time to have an adult in your family help you contact the Federal Wage and Hour Compliance people, or KFC HQ to get you paid. You will be fired (that's illegal too) but this sounds like a terrible place to work anyways.

Well, two things. AT 16 this is a hard lesson to learn - but not every employer is honest. And it is far better for you in the long run to not work with a dishonest employer. So don't worry about being fired. In fact, I would start looking for a job now, elsewhere. There are several things you can try , but understand if the guy is that dishonest - you probably will end up in more trouble from him - BUT it is NOT your fault. He is shorting you hours, that is illegal and the whole purpose for you to be working there is to get paid - and that isn't happening. So the first thing is you need to document your hours. That means keeping a diary of the hours you work - just jot them down in a little booklet every day. Make sure to put the times you clocked on and off work, and the date. Keep that up for at least two pay periods. From that record you now have some proof to show the manager if you prefer to try him one more time - or to someone else. If you have your documentation (the hours you recorded plus what you were actually paid for) the next thing is to bring it up to someone above the boss in the company. If he isn't the manager of the entire store - then try to find that person and talk to him WITHOUT the boss being there. Bring your proof. If he is the manager - look around the shop for a poster on "Grievances" depending on your state, they may require a poster like that on who to contact over grievances. A grievance is an official complaint. If there is no poster about grievances or complaint resolution process - then is the time to make a complain to the wage and hour authority in your area. In the U.S. that government office might be called the "Wage and hour board" or "Bureau of Labor and Industries." They are the "police" when it comes to labor disputes. See if you can find out what office covers your area - you may find that in the government pages in phone book. Or -call City Hall and tell them you want to know who you would talk do over a wage dispute with a private employer. They may not know who right off the top of their head - but they will probably find out. Another resource is to contact a "Reference librarian" at a library near you. Tell them you need to know what government office controls wage and hour disputes in your state and they will look it up for you. Going to the wage and hour office of the state is a serious matter - make sure you have your proof in hand. If you do have a case - the business will be in big trouble. You can kiss the job goodbye (trust me, you don't want to work there if this is the case) but you will be better off for it. You are only 16 and working in food service, there are tons of places you can get a job at. I wish you luck. It really s*cks that he is doing this to you. As I mentioned -not all employers are honest. The majority of them are - but if he really isn't paying you then he is taking advantage of a young, inexperienced person and is not worthy to be managing people. Good luck.
