I cant speak for "some Christians" but as for me:

James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

I wasn't going to answer because you already have enough good answers. However, there is one point worth making. That same spirit that inhabits your body at the time of your death, will rise with you beyond the grave, therefore, it is not meet that you should procrastinate the day of your repentance. You cannot say that you will repent at your deathbed for it will be too late to change your ways. So repent now and manifest your change of heart with the service you perform and then endure to the end in faith and good works.

That's right, to grow in Christ, you need to change your ways and live holy and acceptable unto Him. When you hear Christians say "just believe", they are speaking of Salvation. You only need to believe to get to Heaven. That's why a death bed proclamation of belief is acceptable, that person has no time to do good works. A person who actually loves Jesus for what He gave for us will change their behavior and follow the commandments, but works are not neccessary for Heaven.

Yes it's true but someone who truly believes will also have the acts to show it. They go together but faith comes first. Someone who converted and asks for forgiveness 5 minutes before his death is saved even without any good acts.

But, reverse the principle just to see. Someone did many many good deeds all his life. But even on his deathbed he refuses to believe in Jesus. That person is not saved.

I can't believe Jesus clearly stated anything because "his" words have been handed down to the present day through many generations of fallible, corruptible human beings.

Matthew 24:13-But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved.

Well, for one that's the first thing God requires. It's called 'FAITH'. Believeing and having faith the word is true.Salvation is a free gift from God.
Does it mean get saved and live like you want to ? In no way.

Because God clearly says..."For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is a gift of God, not of works, least anyone should boast". Ephisians 2:8...Jesus says,
25"All this I have spoken while still with you. 26But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid John 14:25-27
For years I just couldn't get it "right" and when I did get it right, I was self righteous and critical of other..but always, the light would fade..I would find myself in some kind of mess again, and I couldn't find any mercy.. After a solemn and honest prayer to God as what I was doing wrong, he led me to the scriptures I just gave you.... I just kept acknowledging my faults to the The Father all along the way, and I wouldn't beat myself up.. sure I kept smoking ... but I released it to the Holy Spirit..sure I still cussed, I did try not too, but when one fell out or I told an exaggeration ...etc.. I didn't beat myself up, I prayed and said, I have so many faults Father I will go insane trying to keep track of all my problems.. he reminded me that when I recieved Christ as my savior , the Holy Spirit showed up, set up camp in my Home(my heart) with his little tool box.. every day, I feel him tinkering with me..lol, every day, I realize its been days, or weeks or months suddenly that I've stopped doing something sinful..some things I tried, but most I didn't. Thats Gods Amazing Grace. God wants up Humble man, he wants us to put our faith in him not ourselves and our abilities to look good to him... then what credit does he get... the good that we are to do, is just fruit of the spirit, we aren't to take credit for the good that we do, and sure as heck better set it up in our minds and hearts, that He is the goodness in our lives, that s how he likes to be praised by denying ourselves and admitting him... can cause yourself alot of blessings that way. Father I pray right now that this person, find and continue in your constant grace and that they persevere through this trial that they are going through, questions like this are traumatic to the soul, and they indeed are suffering if they are trying to be good enough for you... you accepted us at our worst..you said come on home I'll take care of you, and all you want now is a little thanks. Praise you Father AMEN in Jesus Name, AMEN

Because they take the words from the bible & wrap it around what they feel like practicing as opposed to what it says they should do. And then they criticize others for not "knowing" the bible as they know it.

HA!
