I'd recommend upgrading to at least Windows 98SE, but if you're stuck with 95, then just reinstall it from the CD while in Safe Mode. To do this, as the pc boots up, tap the F8 key repeatedly until the pc is in safe mode. Then do the fresh install.

From another computer go to http://bootdisk.com and download that program that lets you make a Windows 98 boot floppy disk. Run the program and it will create a bootable floppy disk.

Boot the 95 computer with the floppy in it. Should start the computer and then give you a menu where you can start the Win 98 install from the CD.

Windows 95 !!!! Try starting in safe mode. Or even in Dos mode if you can. Then maybe an install command. It's been so long I can't remember. Windows 95 !!!!!!

if the computer won't start at all, then you have a hardware problem and won't be able to get any software on it. you can boot from the windows 98 cd and it will let you put it on there if you can get your pc to start. good luck!

Don't do it. You're just spending a lot of time with an
OS that isn't supported, is buggy, virus prone, etc.

Your operating system is defective. I recommend replacing
it with one of:

http://fedora.redhat.com
http://www.opensuse.org
http://www.debian.org
http://www.ubuntu.org
http://www.slackware.org
http://www.freebsd.org
http://www.opensolaris.org

Any of these will be more reliable, less susceptible to
viri, uses your hardware more efficiently, and they're
all free.
