just found out a touch of information about my grandfathers service time in the army and would like to find out everything I can. some operations were just declassified and I'm wanting to find out all I can about him from official records.

I would greatly appreciate information that can get me in the right direction.

Another possibility is the National Archives. I was able to get a copy of my great-grandfather's complete Civil War records from them.

You'll need some pretty specific information about your grandfather to be able to access the data, but it is there. Try this link:

My fist suggestion would be to contact the veterans administration to see if you can get his record.
Then you will need to contact the archives for operations your grandfathers unit participated in.
I am not an American so I don't know what you guys call them over there.

This is the correct answer to your question.

Check this weblink.

There are a couple of options on how you can request and what you can request. Good luck.
