You say Christians/Musslims are sillly for praying to a God you don't believe exists?
Don't you think you look just as silly for condemning someone you don't think exists?
In fact, you look worse-you're condemning someone you don't really believe yourself is there.

I don't say that theists are silly and neither do I "condemn God". You are right that this would be silly. I simply don't believe in God, that's all.

I am an atheist and I condemn no one. If that is your personal choice and you feel it make you whole then by all means pray to your God. I do have a problem with Christians who try to cram their God down people's throats however. And you have to admit that the current upheaval around the globe right now is a result of monotheism gone wrong. The Muslim's believe their God is the best and kill for him. The Jewish people believe their God is the best and they kill in his name. It is the hypocrisy that I find upsetting.

For myself, I have no problems with people believing in the supernatural, as long as they don't condemn the ones who aren't. Everyone can believe in whatever they want. I just have problems with some behavior of religious people or the arrogance to judge what is right or wrong. So it is more condemning the people than a god.

As usual, a believer in the supernatural makes sweeping statements with absolutely no facts to back it up.

Firstly, I don't speak for all atheists, we are individuals with different ideas on things, unlike christians etc, who all believe the exact same thing.

Second, I don't 'condemn someone I don't think exists' I don't condemn anything, I merely do not believe in invisible and/or imaginary beings.

I think its fairly obvious who looks sillier.

Where do you get your information? None of us have ever condemned god. To condemn a god there would have to be a belief that there is a god. Atheists have no such beliefs. We condemn the simpletons who blindly follow the fictional gods.

If you saw a group of people who lived their lives waiting for The trix rabbit, or santa clause, or the tooth fairy to return & grant their wishes of a "garden of eden"-like afterlife.... Would you not feel sorry for their stupidity &try to talk some sense into them? & what if those people were following their belief for centuries & could not break the belief in their "god" would you not condemn them in your mind for being simpletons to follow such a ridiculous belief??

That's the way atheists see religions that follow fictional invisible deities! We condemn you for not being logical enough to see the books you hold so dear are fairy tales only meant to provide insight into life, not for you to worship & push upon others & condemn those who do not believe to an eternity of suffering. Do you have any idea how many people have died by the hands of christians over the centuries simply because they were not christian?

At least Atheists have never killed for what they believe in... we've never tried to force our beliefs on anyone else. We simply try to educate, as the christians claim they try to do...except our definition of education isn't condemning those who do not & can not believe in the fairy tales.

Dude. No one is condemning God. We don't believe in a god, so you are right in thinking that is silly.
However, if we DO condemn God, we are probably doing it through the eyes of a theist.

For example, "In the eyes of a Christian, God is a loving God. But according to his story he also caused mass genocides, killing innocent children and even animals. That is not a loving God."

I'm an atheist and I don't condemn anybody for their religious beliefs. And, by the way, atheism is not a belief system. It is a conclusion. You study all the materials available and the history and context in which it was written, and then you come to an educated conclusion. But I don't put down co-workers or neighbors who "believe". If I took away their belief system, they would have no security blanket.

Let me be perfectly clear about this, no atheist condemns your silly God. The fact is, your God was invented by the over-active imaginations of our primitive ancestors, who used Him to explain perfectly natural phenomenon they could not otherwise describe. The ones who deserve and receive my sincere pity are the uneducated faithful who are afraid to allow themselves to learn to think properly. A good secular education is the only known cure for the plague of Christian ignorance currently sweeping America. For the record, I don't give a damn what you or any other Christian thinks of me.

Is saying that having a supernatural imaginary friend 'condemning?' I'm not sure that I've ever heard too many atheists condemn the theists. Call it 'silly'- sure, but the only condemning that I've ever heard seems to be coming from the theists who say that we will burn in hell for all eternity for not believing in the exact diety that they believe in.

did I get this wrong?

I totally support your right to believe anything you want. Until you turn your beliefs into laws which restrict our freedoms.
