I recently met someone, who claimed to be a CPA, that told me I will not be audited in Texas unless I am getting a ten thousand dollar refund or more. He told me to file my taxes, keep all of my paperwork and don't worry about an audit since I won't receive that much. Is it really that worry free?

No it's not true, although the chances of an audit might go up if you have a very high refund. If you lie on your return, and get audited, you're in trouble, whether you had ANY refund or not. If you have a huge refund, but can prove everything you put down is legitimate, then you don't have to worry.

This person might claim to be a CPA, and maybe they ever are, but they're also a sleaze - and not giving accurate advice. Did what he said even sound reasonable to you?
