Yes, it is because Paul said so. Much of the NT is because Paul said so.

The Bible says that Paul was blinded because Paul was on his way to Damascus to kill more believers of Jesus. Thats when Jesus blinded him and said, " Why do thou persecute me?'

Because he gave testimony to this event further why would Saul who was a respected member of the hierarchy in Jerusalem suddenly become a persecuted follower of Christ,it makes no sense without the meeting on the road to Damascus.

the men who journeyed with Paul heard Jesus, though they did not see Him,
also Annanias was given a vision- he knew who Saul was and what his deeds were, God told Annanias that Paul was now a vessel for His own glory- Annanias would have know by seeing the difference in Paul that his life matched his testimony.

Act 9:12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.
Act 9:13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:
Act 9:14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.
Act 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
Act 9:16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.
Act 9:17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

Acts 9:3-6, "As he (Saul) journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shown around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground , and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him. “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.

We do not know but we believe that he saw Jesus. Knowing is seeing it your self and it does not need any proof. The things that we know are called facts. Many biblical events are not historical facts especially if they pertain to gospel truths. Truth is more complete and encompassing than facts and because of our human limitations we can only grasp truth by the gift of faith.

Because the Word of God is Truth and all scripture is awe
inspired by God . For He cannot lie . Do you remember what
Paul's name was before . I am happy that you are starting to ask question because this is Gods Grace at work in you . There is plenty more . But you will have to ask God to reveal His Truth in you . Seek Him out and He will meet you .

Paul is the stereotype of a sleazy, used car salesman dressed up as a purveyor of religion. Paul's only proof is in the words of Paul himself. Suckers and con-men have existed throughout history.

There is as much evidence for that as for any resurrection appearance. Or for the appearance of god to Muhammad. Or for the appearance of Moroni to Joseph Smith. Or for the appearance of Jesus to Sun Myung Moon.

His changed life. He went from stoning Christians and devoting his life to wiping out the Church....to becoming the "Apostle to the Gentiles" and willing to be beheaded in Rome as a martyr because of this fact.

Best evidence there is!
