Hmmm..... If god was to attempt to cease to exist, then it follows that his will would cease to exist along with him. The question becomes one of will versus time. Can god cease to exist before his will to cease existence runs out?

In science, effect is nearly always after cause, even if only by a fraction. So from this theory, god's will to cease existence would run out before his existence ceased. At best god could continually attempt to cease existence, his will and existence draining in a sort of half-life. He would never be able to completely will himself out of existence. Of course, after starting this, the loss of will would cause god to no longer be omnipotent, which is a contradiction of god-ness. The issue then becomes one of a definition of god, not the quantifiability of his existence.

On the other hand, if god is indeed omnipotent and omniscient, he must have a way around this problem which we do not and perhaps cannot know about. If he does, I think it probably involves relativity in some way.

I must reluctantly conclude that we cannot know if god can stop existing. The nearest we can come is the theoretical possibility of his self-diminution.

God is eternal and therefore will exist eternally.

Man is eternal and will never stop existing. We are all spiritual beings, with eternal spirits that will never die or cease to exist and that is the image of God that we are
made in.

Some will enjoy their eternity. Others will not. God will judge who belongs in either group by the one single qualification of accepting or rejecting His Son.

Things that don't exist can't develop the ability to stop existing.

They would first have to develop the ability to exist.

Something must exist before it can cease to exist. The real question IS, "can God start existing?"

doesn't it seem odd that the "evidence for the existence of god" is completely hidden from the greatest human minds who spend their professional lives exploring how the universe functions, yet it is perfectly clear to uneducated simpletons who have access to internet-linked terminals?

The Bible says that he's eternal. He has to exist forever in order to qualify for that label, so no, he couldn't make himself nonexistent because he has his infinite nature to live up to.

*sigh* oh look, a logic trap.

Lets see, if I say yes, that means God cannot live through anything / some other load of garbage, and so isn't omnipotent.
If I say No, God isn't omnipotent and can't do everything.

Have i got it about right?

What about the one where "Can God create a stone he can't pick up?"

Same sort of thing?

What you have to grasp your mind around my friend, is that by the very nature of God, the answer is always:

BOTH.

But the question makes a mute point in any case.

IF I were to tell you what God can and can't do, God them becomes a figment of my imagination rather than reality.
