Matthew 7:1-6 Judge not, that you may not be judged. For with whatever judgment you judge, you shall be judged; and with whatever measure you measure out, it shall be measured to you again. And why do you look on the splinter that is in your brother's eye, but do not consider the beam that is in your own eye? Or how will you say to your brother, Let me pull the splinter out of your eye; and, behold, a beam is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First cast the beam out of your own eye, and then you shall see clearly to cast the splinter out of your brother's eye. Do not give that which is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet and turn again and tear you.

Luke 6:41,42
WEY: "And why look at the splinter in your brother's eye instead of giving careful attention to the beam in your own?
WEY: How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take that splinter out of your eye,' when all the while you yourself do not see the beam in your own eye? Vain pretender! take the beam out of your own eye first, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother's eye.

Mote and beam are the terms the KJV uses. Generally the sense is a speck of sawdust or dirt rather than a splinter contrasted with a really big piece of wood, a beam (in the sense of house construction), or a plank, or a log.

"Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?" Matthew 7:3

Another way is was said was "straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel." This is in reference to having a gnat in your food or drink. The hypocrit focuses on the little things in others but fails to see the big problems they have in their own life.

Or how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye,? Hypocrite. First remove the plank from your own eye and then you will se clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother's eye. I hope this helped f_massdin@yahoo.com
