I see a lot of insult flinging from Christians to non-Christians and vice versa. Why? When someone asks a question about atheism or something you don't believe in, why do Christians have to insult them or post some cliche Christian response that doesn't have anything to do with the question? Just answer the question nicely and if you can't do that, move on to another question.
Non-Christians too. When a Christian asks a question about their faith, why do you post insults about how stupid we are or how ignorant or how we are just followers? Why can't you just nicely share your opinion and leave it at that? Why do we have to argue or try to convert each other?
Is everyone just having a knee-jerk reaction to how they expect to be treated on here? Are you letting out your aggressions on faceless people?

That's true about the reporting. And sorry if it sounds like I'm generalizing. I'm really not trying to as I am one of the people who doesn't insult when responding to questions. I'm just fed up with it. I want people to see that it's not necessary.

Even in this question, the Christians are coming out and insulting the non Christians. Why are you so defensive??

Quite agree. I think it's (at least in part) down to the 'my belief is rightier than yours' thing.

Perhaps if we all just accepted that in our opinions what we think is correct and therefore don't have to repeatedly restate it and stuck to answering the question it might be better.

Just because we can't see each other is no excuse for knocking on someone else's door and running away.

Just a thought.

If i may, i think there may be a couple of reasons for defensiveness, but I think that insecurity is at the foundational level. This may be due do insecurity of one's faith, misuse or abuse from others based on faith, or any number of other negative reinforcements. It is a lot easier to lash out people you don't have to see face to face. I see some really good answers here already, but i did want to offer something up because i think i can answer nicely. I'll try anway.
I think really it's all about tolerance. I'm a pagan, but i know many christians and a few muslims and jews. I think the real question is: Why is acting like an adult so difficult? Is it because no one knows who you here and you're not all that accountable for your actions? We can get specific with this if anyone is interested:
Pagans (people not of the book): Wouldn't it be cool if your faith were accepted on a wider scale? How can we put our best foot forward and make that easier?
Christians: Anyone remember the parable of the good samartin?
Muslims: I know the Koran says we as pagans don't need to be recognized as faithful, but isn't the proper treatment of brothers and sisters on planet earth supposed to bring you one step closer to Allah?
Jews: You've got one of the oldest documented religions still in existence (not forsaking parts that are found in older documented religions). Is there anything to be insecure about?

I'm not about the conversion of anyone to anything. I don't even think people of the same faith believe the same thing. As a man, a husband, a son, a brother, a nephew and uncle, i can tell you that i'm usually wrong. Why should my beliefs prove any different at the end of my life?
Sorry this was so long.

Hi. I'm a Christian. And I know! It's so annoying how if we ask a simple question, then they charge at us with insults. And sometimes, I agree. Most questions on here regarding non-Christians, some of us Christians charge at them telling them how wrong they are. In this section, I TRY to turn people to Christ. But I also want to have a good time and answer nicely. Before, I was going in another section because I was tired of this! And I think I'm leaving again. BYE!

Katie, Evil entered the world and good will eventually win! It sounds like you are trying to be the good person and question; the hard or ignorant response people give to inquiries. When anyone thinks they can insult another person for asking a question, I think it's because of their lack of knowledge on the subject or they are just plain ignorant. Some people sow hate and like being weeds. Others are searching for a way out of the weeds and looking for knowledge to become vibrant works of God.

Because sadly enough, it's the tendency of the human race to attack anything that is different or that you don't agree with. This site was intended to be a place where people can learn and exchange information, not some kind of battlefield.

And as you say, people tend to forget that there are live human beings on the other end of the computer lines. We can still speak the truth as we see it, but we need to do so in love and respect for those who are reading our posts.

The more you corner a snake (or a man) the more deadly he becomes, the more he has to go out of his defended areas to attack you. He is creating a buffer. Be it any religion, logic and sense are generally at a premium, and a question on those aspects will force the 'believers' to perforce come and assert his territoriality, for fear of otherwise permitting a threat to the edifice itself. The more a person reacts the more you can be certain, that he himself doesnt know what he is believing and thats why doesnt want any wave to touch his secure shores for fear of raising questions in his own mind that he may not be in a position to answer.

I try to be as civil as possible... Flinging insults makes me no better than they are. I just want to get my point across to them, but sometimes they say something SO IGNORANT about my faith that I can't help but put in a few jabs.

As a Christian, but one who really tries to just answer the question, I think the Christians started the mud throwing here on YA R&S.
It is certainly a knee jerk reaction, that is facilitated to the surface by the fact that there is percieved anonimity on the net.

And that is the reason why the Penguin Army exists, to hold the peace and virtueness on R&S, even though we get reported most of the time. Most of the PA is made of both, even though im a wiccan.

Simple.people are arguing over things that they 1-believe in whole heartedly, but 2-can't seem to get the others to listen to the voice of "reason".It's like trying to teach a pig to sing.
