There is a reference in the Old Testament about tattoos, but Christ came to free us from the law.

My question to you is, do you want to permanently mark your body with anything? (It may not look so great when your 65 and your grandchildren are asking you what the discolored blob is on your skin)

Spend some time quietly thinking of God and ask yourself why you are doing this. If you are a Christian, than all we do should bring Glory to him. Will your Chinese tattoo do this?

The Old Testament law commanded the Israelites, “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD” (Leviticus 19:28). So, even though believers today are not under the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23-25; Ephesians 2:15), the fact that there was a command against tattoos should cause us to question. The New Testament does not say anything about whether a believer should or should not get a tattoo.

"For whatsoever is not of faith is sin" (Romans 14:23). We need to remember that our bodies, as well as our souls, have been redeemed and belong to God. Although 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 does not directly apply to tattoos or body piercings, it does give us a principle, "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." This great truth should have a real bearing on what we do and where we go with our bodies. If our bodies belong to God, we should make sure we have His clear "permission" before we "mark it up" with tattoos.

Hi. I have answered several questions about tattoos and included info on piercings.

Unfortunately opinions vary across the board, but several of my Christian children have done both. As have their Christian and non-Christian friends.

All those holes make me a little squirmy, but that is just thinking about getting them.

My children were saved before, during, and after.

As long as self-expression does not detract from your projecting yourself as a Christian (profanity, etc.), God hasn't had a problem with my bunch.

On the subject of the Chinese symbol for love: my home is loaded with stuff my martial arts lovin' son brings in: the symbols are beautiful, and so artfully rendered.

Unless someone can present something else you would like to consider, go for it.

If you attend a particular church, however, you may want to ask your pastor.

Enjoy your tatoo! It will be lovely!

P.S. Safety at all costs! Go to a legitiamate parlor, unless you know the tattoo artist personally.

How would getting a tattoo make you any less of a Christian since the bible mentions nothing about being a Christian?

What do the bible and tattoos have in common? They are both written for humans/by humans.

You are no closer to God just because you don't have a tattoo. You found what you like, no get inked!

OK some may say look in Leviticus.. which states you should not tattoo (the only place in the Bible where tattoos are stated), yet you must also remember that this is found within the Old Testament which also states you are not allowed to eat meat that still has blood within it, men are not allowed to trim the sides of their beards, and women are not allowed to wear more than one type of cloth. It's really up to you and how you feel, but I am a Christian and I have tattoos and I am proud of them, and I don't think God would judge me on that.. Again the choice is yours.. Hope that helps!

I dont think god is going to keep you out of heaven for getting a tattoo. Especially if your intentions are good. I have a passage from the bible tattooed on my back, and I'm not even Christian.

There is something about tattooing.
Back when it was written, people would tattoo themselves with the name or symbol of their deity. I think it's in Deuteronomy - I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT:
It's in Leviticus 19, go ahead and read it.
I have a tattoo and do plan on getting another one ~ I believe the law is talking about what I said above.

There is no prohibition within the New Covenant against tattoos. You are free to do as you wish, but stay away from pagan symbols associated with other religions/cults. This would be unloving toward God.

There's a prohibition in Leviticus, but it has never applied to those living under the New Covenant.

You should try out one of those fake removable tattoos. If you don't like the way that it looks at least you can remove it. That way as well you will know whether or not you want to get a tattoo for real or not. That's just my food for thought.

Personally, no - I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I think religion and getting a tattoo have NOTHING to do with one another and you shouldn't be condemned by other Christians for getting a tattoo.
