I have a large celtic knotwork tattoo on my lower back - my first tattoo. I am a bit of a wuss when it comes to pain - especially the self inflicted kind! During tattooing it feels more like a burn, you would probably expect it to feel sharp and jabby with all those little needles going in. Check with your local tattooist about the price as different styles and colours would cost more. If you are really nervous of the pain a good tattooist will let you feel what the pain will be like by using the tattoo gun, without ink, on the spot you want your artwork!

Hi,
Yes, on a female the lower back and spine is one of the most painful areas - the stomach and abdomen is less painful.
Price-wise, it could be anything from £20-100... it all depends on the skill of the artist and what exactly you're having done. Why not go and visit a few places and say you're just looking, but you want an idea of cost? Any decent tattoo artist will be impressed that you're taking time to think it through. You can have a discussion with them about the style of lettering and placement, etc.
As a general tip, try to go to a place that has a website. Usually you can tell a lot from their website... and if they don't have one, don't bother going in!
It's a nice idea getting your own name. Maybe look into what your name means and it's origin to give you more design ideas. I googled it and some sites said that it was of Latin origin, and relates to "the laurel tree signifying glory, honor and victory in Roman times......The name is also believed to be related to the Irish name Lorcan which means brave and fierce." So you could play around with this and find something that you know you'll love.
I like some lower back tattoos. Another good area on women is the abdomen and around the belly button, I think both of those look sexy and not as many people have them.
Good luck :-)
xx Emmie
EDIT: Oooh hang on - your other questions say that you're only 15? I love tattoos - but I think you're too young to get one! The law states that you have to be 18 for a reason - it's when your body and mind are grown up enough to really appreciate how serious getting a tattoo is. When I was 16, I wanted a tribal/celtic pattern on my lower back.... now I'm SO glad I didn't get it. Just think it through very carefully. xx

As far as tattoos are concerned you have to consider that the more bone and nerve endings are in the area the more pain there will be. A person may have low pain tolerance but the true test will be when you are sitting in the chair. (You will need patience).
The feeling is kind of like a person pulling at your skin (at the same spot over and over again) and for how ever long it take to finish the piece. I can relate it to the felling of getting a fill in at a dentist, even the same sound of a drill. Similarly, the annoying pain your lips get from the dentist pulling on them, that is the pain you get on your skin.
FYI-1) it also hurts after you get it done because the skin is sore. 2) the tattoo has an ugly stage after you get it done and it scabs and peals, like a scar.
Getting inked is a nice thing but it has to be meaningful and not something you will get bored of or will regret.

I also have a low pain tolerance but I got a tattoo on my lower back and it wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. It was painful but not unbearable or anything plus I had a really great artist that let me take a short break whenever I needed. You will be fine just eat beforehand so you don't get light headed and stay calm throughout- it's worth the pain in the end!

No tattoo is painless but there are more painful places to get it done then the lower back. I had my done there and it really wasnt that painful. It was quite tolerable actually and I do not have a high pain tolerance either.
The cost all depends on where you get it done and who by.
Tattoo artists charge quite high in New York but the same tattoo in San Diego was half the price!
So shop around where you live as it will vary.

Of all my tattoos, my lower back tattoo hurt the worst but it wasn't so painful to be unbearable. The tattoo artist asked if I was ok frequently and was cool with taking a break if I needed it. It's a different sensation to get a tattoo at that spot than other spots, I felt more vibration and I shifted my position several times because of the way I had to sit to get it done.

I have a tat on my lower back. It hurt me, however the guy I had freakin dug the needles in my back. The pain level depends on who you are, how you take pain, and how the artist is. No one can tell you how bad it will hurt you. Personally everyone says the foot hurts like hell, however my foot tat didn't hurt at all but my lower back did. Price range depending on the size it will run anywhere from 75-200, that also depends on the artist. Hope it helps!

I have 2 huge gothic fairies on my back and my first was on my lower back. it hurt a little but not much. I t depends on ur tolerance for pain. also it really matters whether or not the artist goes easy on it or not. Its not the worst at all. (ribs) and (around the nipples hurt). My bro had around his nipples done. If its small i'd say any where from 75.00-150.00 dollars. I hope i helped.

The pain is not so bad.

Yes I've got a big one on the base of my back - actually it's three but it melts into one at the base. On the bone it hurts like hell my lovely! Low pain threshold - oh dear! And when it's scabbing over it's really sore... you can't sleep on it/wear tight clothes etc... Good luck!
