Is God a myth to make human kind believe in something beyond themselves and be scared to commit crimes such as adultery?
Is God real? Is the belief that God exists real?

Why do we believe in God what makes it seem so real?

Are you scared that when you die that God will turn around and punish you for believing in the WRONG GOD as there seems to be so many of them.
Explain

God is a need. People need something to believe in. But you will notice as much as people believe in God they have a much greater fear of dying. They all want to be one of those left behind. There is always some excuse for needing to live a little longer. What is their reluctance to enter their fantasy La La Land of Eternity?

Well...

Okay, here's my idea. And that's all any religion is, since none of it can be proven.

I think God exists as a physical entity. I think that all things that we now consider "supernatural," - magic, power of prayer or positive thinking, curses, esp, ghosts, and, yes, God - are either crap or physical things that we do not yet understand.

You know that matter is basically 90% empty space, right? That solidity is an illusion and solid objects are made up of swirling atoms that never touch each other? Well, I think God fills that empty space. God is a network of some as yet undiscovered subatomic phenomenon - probably the same phenomenon that creates "thought" - operating within everything, connecting all through the "empty" space.

Can I say that this is true? Hell, no. But it makes sense to me. Maybe someday we'll know. Maybe not.

I would explain it, but don't want to. Already have too many times, as this question has been asked at least 100 times so far as the time I have been on Yahoo! Answers.

But to summarize it, God exist, and He is the One who created you, me, your parents and family, and everyone else and everything else such as the rocks, trees, skies, seas ect, and this universe and everything that exists, God created. God was not created, He has no parents or offspring, no family at all. He is the First, and the Last. He doesn't sleep, or anything. Nor does He eat, He is nothing like us, and He doesn't need us, but we need Him. He can never die. You get the point? He is perfect. We are nothing compared to God. nothing is not the answer.

God is a supreme being.
Having all power and knowledge and understanding.
Knowing the outcome before the instance has started.
Way beyond our understanding.
That is why we are always saying WHY.

Who is God is probably a better approach.
He is Jesus.
Yes that is right.
His name is Jesus.
It is the name that was given to Him in bodily form.
You might say the name revealed to us.

God is a generic term used to describe the Supreme Being. It is not a name. Jesus, however is a name.
Westerners have sort of changed it,
They say Jesus Christ,
Actually it is Jesus the Christ.
Christ is not a name either. It is a descriptor. Saying who Jesus was.
Christ meaning Savior.
Therefore Jesus The Savior.

Well let me ask you a few questions. Just say i bring a machinary in front of you that no one has ever seen before and i ask you who knows the function of this machine. You would obviously say the manufacturer or the maker or the creator or the inventor etc. So how do you think the world came out, or the universe and all the nature. If it just came out of no where how can it be so perfect. Okay moving on, the study of embryology right now has just been discovered recently that is about a hundred years ago. But who do you think told about the development of an embryo before 1400 years ago in the Holy Qura'an, obviously the Creator (GOD). Next point, it was only before like 500 years or so people started to admit that the world is spherical in size but then the Quran said this 1400 years ago. Who do you think would have said this, obviously the Creator(GOD). My next point, it was only a few years ago that science told us that the sun rotates on its own axis, but Allah said this in the Holy Quran 1400 years ago in chapter 21 verse 33 ( you can confirm it by referring to the Quran). It was only recently that science says that mountains prevent the Earth from shaking but my Creator, Allah said this 1400 years ago in Chapter 78 Verse 6 and 7. And another point, science only recently found that the universe is expanding but Allah said this in the Quran before 1400 years ago in chapter 51 verse 47. Hope i have proved enough about the existence of God. Im not an expert in Islam, but there are people with better knowledge than me and all ill say is Islam is the true relegion and hope to see you as another brother or sister in Islam. You can watch the video of this expert speaker which might make you a bit more confident and reading the Quran would clarify all your doubts im sure. If you have time watch both these videos-

Hopefully, one day, people will all stop believing in god, he is just a myth, like the easter bunny, the tooth fairy, and santa clause.

Without god, I see the world as a much more peaceful place.

God is not merely "a being" but being itself. As the Sufis put it, nothing but God exists; or as Luke has Paul put it, in fact quoting a Greek poet, in God "we live and move and exist".

Questions about the nature or character of God are on a different level, and often face the danger of idolatry - which doesn't mean merely making statues, but presenting anything created (even something like the Bible) as though it is ultimate and has the attributes of God.

Faith in God is ultimately faith in transcendence, and that we are not ultimate and are limited in our perspectives and understandings, and that (as theologian Paul Tillich famously put it) that life is not shallow.

I don't have enough words to talk about this subject, mostly due to the fact you have people on both the pro and the con side of whatever it is or isn't...Look at the statement before mine case in point...they just though they would be a smart*ss. Read up, look at a bunch of different sources, read the Bible, Torah, Quoran, Small Gods by Terry Pratchett, and the Blind watchmaker. That will be a beginning. The important thing is in all of this...God is whatever you make God to be. So make God a good one.

Its a suppressing method used by the rich.
It keeps the poor man/woman down.
If there is a god and you pick the wrong one then its that Gods fault for not leading you to him.
Any way If there is a God then i believe that all these religions are connected by the same God who uses different Guise

god is everything
the percieved and the invisible
myths are ways of explaining the invisible
so god is real and he is a myth
yes people use religion to control people too
i think some of us believe in god
because we have a sense of god
a different type of memory sort of like instinct
i am not scared of god at all
there is no wrong god
there are infinite perceptions of god
because each thing in the world is unique
