I woke up this morning and can barely move my neck. I can turn my head to the left, but that's all I can do. I'm having a hard time moving? What should I do?

This frequently happens to people in the morning. Sometimes it's from the position You slept in. If you do a lot of computer work you're bound to end up with neck problems.

Place a moist heating pad or hot towels on your neck for fifteen minutes at a time. Afterwords apply an analgesic balm to the area. repeat this process three times daily. This should start relaxing the muscle in the neck.

take an anti inflammatory medicine such as Advil, 4 times today to reduce the inflammation.

If you can get a massage from a qualified massage therapist they could work out the problem and also advise you on what to do to prevent the problem.

If this continues check with your medical doctor.

Try this several times. If it doesn't work, call your doc and tell them about the problem. They can help you: 1. SLOWLY rotate your head all the way around. 2. Move your head slowly back, and lower your head toward your chest slowly as far as possible. There will more than likely be a pull, but if this happened only when you awoke this morning, there MAY BE only a catch or minor strain in a portion of your neck. 3. Apply heat as tolerated to your neck and go through the above motions with the pad present. 4. If there is need, based on your feeling after this process, take a couple of Extra Strength Tylenol. 5. Do the rotation and slow movement also for your shoulders. Move them and both arms as well. Good luck!

Take Advil 400 mg every 4-6 hours, not to exceed the recommended amounts, a heating pad when you are at home and when you have to be up and about use tiger balm or some similar product ( Ben gay etc.), and rest, it is very painful and difficult to sleep, if you could see a doctor he would be able to prescribe a muscle relaxer as well as something stronger for pain. It will take about three days for you begin to feel better and the Advil has built up in your system. I don't recommend cold packs as I feel they cause the muscle to spasm even more ( every one tenses up when they are cold).
Feel better.

Take some motrin -
relax can you just rest today?
Ice and heat may help too - they say ice is best (I know heat feels better).
Hot shower after the motrin and just try hard to relax.
Sounds like you have a knot or a stiff neck.
Can you move it up and down?
Headache with it (if so call your MD now)
if the pain is that bad call them and be seen before the weekend starts.
