The politically correct 'affirmative action' types, lead by Je$$e Jack$on and his followers adopted it as a symbol of the supposed alliance of the 'races', then the "Gays" glommed onto it because they felt that 'gender' equality should be included, as well.

A Rainbow is the breaking up of light into the various colors of the visible spectrum. Its a plain and simple physical phenomenon. Using the rainbow to symbolize something is a creation of the human mind. The rainbow is not used to symbolize 'gayness'. You are mistaken there. It is, however, used to symbolize diversity of lifestyle and ethnicity. Many different peoples, many different lifestyles - like many different colors. No one single color is better or best they are all just different and they all go together to make up all of humanity. A very good use of a symbol I would say.

Perhaps you could ask this question in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered as well, I'm sure there's plenty more people there who could tell you the answer.
As far as I understand it, the rainbow represents the wide variety of people who come under the umbrella term of LGBT.
Thank you, also, for mentioning that it's the symbol of God's promise, as I had never heard that before.
Today I have learnt something new.

The rainbow flag, sometimes called 'the freedom flag', has been used as a symbol of gay and lesbian pride since the 1970s. The different colors symbolize diversity in the gay community, and the flag is often used as a symbol of gay pride in gay rights marches. It originated in the United States, but is now used around the world.

The rainbow flag was first used to symbolize gay pride and diversity by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker; as of 2006, it currently consists of six colored stripes of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. It is most commonly flown with the red stripe on top, as the colors appear in a natural rainbow.

I always think of God's Love when I see a rainbow. Maybe that is why gays chose to use a rainbow, because God loves them too. Just because a rainbow has become a symbol for a group of people doesn't negate a Christian's belief and God's promise.

May God Bless you.

no longer unavoidably, there is not any longer sufficient info to help the concept that homosexuality is genetic. the only element all of us comprehend for effective (though no longer absolutely everyone agree) are that homosexuality is neither a call, neither is it something it really is determined by using upbringing. We assume that's genetic because all of us comprehend that's something it really is innate, yet we haven't to any extent further all started to locate the 'gay gene'. on the different hand, being genetic doesn't unavoidably propose that is hereditary, it might nicely be led to by using a mutation of a gene or the crossing over of chromosomes ensuing in a clean DNA sequence. one element we can assume though is that if homosexuality is definitely genetic, that's probably a recessive gene with the aid of the indisputable fact that's a lot less common than homosexuality. this signifies that someone on your spouse and youngsters ought to carry the gay gene, yet they gained't unavoidably be gay themselves because the immediately gene overpowers it. in spite of the indisputable fact that, in case you inherit one gay allele out of your mom and one out of your father (assuming they're both heterozygous, meaning they have one dominant immediately allele and one recessive gay allele, so that they are both immediately yet carry the gay gene), then you rather will be homozygous recessive, meaning you get 2 gay alleles, so that you're going to exhibit the features of the gay gene, meaning you'd be gay. for sure i have been reading too a lot biology immediately. Time to bypass to mattress.

Well dear, you Christians do not own the copyright on the rainbow, it's a natural phenomenon. It's also a religious symbol in other cultures and faiths too. In Asatru, the rainbow is symbolic of Bifrost, the rainbow bridge that connects Midgard and Asgard--the connection between humanity and the Gods. In the tradition of Vodun, one finds prominent connections between rainbow and serpent; among the Australian Aborigines, the rainbow serpent (with a host of different names, depending on language and region), is the most important figure in the Dreamtime.

As for the Gay pride flag, the rainbow was first introduced with eight stripes - fuchsia, red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, blue, and violet.

The fuchsia stands for sexuality; red, orange and yellow stand for healing, sunlight and nature, respectively. Turquoise, blue and violet, stand for art, serenity and spirit. The flag was changed for the last time in 1979 without fuchsia and turquoise.

Oh my...

Dispersion is a phenomenon that causes the separation of a wave into spectral components with different wavelengths, due to a dependence of the wave's speed on its wavelength.

A rainbow is caused by dispersion of sunlight as it goes through the raindrops.

God really, really has nothing to with that. The phenomenon was on this planet before the so called flood too, of course.
