Not a recipe, just guidelines...
Use pasta that's in larger chunks or bits, like rotelli, shells, or elbows. Don't use strands, like spaghetti, because it won't hold onto a watery dressing.
When you cook the pasta, slightly undercook it, like by 2 minutes. It can then absorb more flavor from the dressing. After the pasta is cooked, drain it well, and mix it with the dressing while it's still warm; that will also allow it to absorb more flavor.
Prepare the dish at least a couple of hours in advance...the day before would be best. Allow the mixture to sit (covered) in the fridge for at least a couple of hours, so it can cool thoroughly, and so the flavors can blend. Right before you serve it, give it a quick toss to recombine everything.

Sometimes I just cook whatever pasta I have on hand, throw a few veggies in there (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, olives,etc..) with some Italian dressing, chill it for about an hour and then voila!! Side dish! It always turns out great.

I like Maria's suggestions, but here's a creamier version:
Creamy Italian Pasta Salad
1/2 cup House Italian Dressing
1/2 cup MIRACLE WHIP Dressing
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
4 cups (8 oz.) bow tie pasta, cooked, drained
4 cups broccoli florets
1 cup chopped red pepper
1 cup carrot slices
1/2 cup red onion slices
4 oz. provolone cheese, cubed
MIX dressings and seasoning in large bowl until well blended.
ADD remaining ingredients; mix lightly. Cover.
REFRIGERATE several hours or until chilled. Store leftover salad in refrigerator.

maybe it would be a good idea to use a little mustard in the sauce to bring out the mustard in yr chicken. this is something very simple i sometimes put on the side with lamb...dunno why but it works well and ppl like it. just heat up some butter in a pan, add some honey, mustard, black pepper and garlic and let it warm up. if u have cream u can add a few spoons of that if not it doesnt really matter. just mix it up with the pasta and u can make it look pretty by adding chopped parsely.

Pasta doesn't have any side dish.
Pasta is a first course, pasta has just a sauce.
