It is not uncommon. It might be normal for you.
*SOMETIMES* clicking is associated with pain and other problems- and that's TMD. TMD stands for temporomandibular disorder, which used to be called TMJ (temporomandibular joint). But since everyone has the joints (and therefore, TMJs), we now call the condition TMD.
Do you have pain? Do you have frequent headaches? Do you clench or grind your teeth? These are all questions to consider.
Certainly, consult your dentist. If you're in pain, do not wait. Otherwise, make a note in your palm pilot and ask at your next appt.

No, it's not suppose to do that........mine has done that, and I have TMJ. I had a really really really bad overbite that was causing it, and I had braces put on 2 years ago, and my jaw never clicks or aches anymore. I wouldn't really worry about it too much unless it causes you pain. You should probably see a dentist about it though, maybe there is something he can do to help you out.

Normal jaw opening measured from the incisal edges of the top front teeth to the incisal edges of the bottom front teeth is 48-52mm and a normal jaw should be able to open that wide without making any noise. If you try to open beyond the normal range of motion it is possible to intentionally dislocate the jaw. So if your jaw clicks when you open less than the above range, then you have a jaw problem and it is not normal. If your jaw clicks only when you open beyond the above range, then it is normal and you are simply opening too wide.

Sounds like TMJ, I would see a dentist. You can grow out of it, as you get older, if you are young. There are other times they may need to do surgery. These are the extremes. Just check with the dentist.

Mine does too, has it always done this or did it just start? Often it is related to teeth grinding while you sleep. I grind my teeth but it doesn't cause me any problems so they said I was fine. However, if you have a lot of headaches or migranes it may be do to the teeth grinding and they can give you a guard to wear on your teeth.
If it just clicks, don't worry about it, if you have other symptoms definately go to the dentist.

Mine does the same thing - It is TMJ. Next time you are at the dentist, mention it. I just try not to open my mouth super wide - that is when mine clicks. Or sometimes when I am chewing.

Mine does that all the time - sometimes it can be quite painful. I've been assured that nothing can be done but seemingly us 'clicky jaws' will get arthritis young... in the jaw - man it's gonna hurt!
