What's the difference between loving someone and being "in love" with them? And how will you know that you're in love? Most people have told me that "you'll just know", but I don't understand that. I mean, what if you think you're in love, and you really aren't? Our hearts and minds can play tricks on us, you know.

Okay, I'm going to go off of personal experience. To love someone is to care about them in general. You don't want them to get hurt, you care that they are happy, etc. They have a tender place in your heart. To be IN LOVE with someone is a much stronger feeling that actually hurts your heart in a weird way, all you have to do is just look at them. And when you hug them, it's not close enough, it's never close enough. I can only describe that it feels like you just want to jump inside of the person and occupy the same space that they do, you literally want to merge souls with them. Sorry, I probably sound like a freak, but that's the only way I know how to describe the way it felt to me when I was in love.

There's this girl I've known for seven years now. We’ve been friends and never anything more. Neither she nor I want anything more. She is my closest friend. I can honestly say I love her, because I care about her, but that does not mean I am in love with her.

You can love just about anyone and anything, but being in love is different. There is an easy way to distinguish. If there is a person you want to give everything you are to, then likely that's being in love.

Note: lust or infatuation has to do with wanting to possess the other person, not giving them you. That's the difference.

In my experience at least, the words "I love you" are thrown around a bit more casually than "I'm IN love with you." Love is kind of a test of time thing, it's alot easier to look back and say whether or not you were in love than it is to decide in the here and now. I know it sounds alot like what you've already heard, but you will know if you're in love, it just feels different from anything else.

it really is true. you really just know. Its something that really can't be explained. It just is. Hearts and minds usually don't think on the same wave length when it comes to love. Hearts tend to be much more emotional driven than our minds. Hearts make us react more and the minds help us to act better. (big difference). For me, I knew i loved many women before I found the woman I married. I am in love with her as well as love her. When it is true and the real thing, those two comments are virtually inseperable.

You will know when you are "in love with someone"! Your heart will tell you!! You will be able to look into their eyes and see yourself, when they walk thru the door each time it will be like the very first time you laid eyes on them! When you have just "love for someone", that means you care alot about them but hearts won't start to come out of your eyes when they walk thru the door. I love my ex husand but I'm not in love with him anymore. I care for him and his well being but my heart doesn't skip a beat for him anymore. Its hard to explain but you will "JUST KNOW"!!

It's the same but I'd rather hear someone say "I'm in love you". It sounds more like he really means it. That he's actually STuck in loving you.
"I love you" sometimes sounds like "I love you.Don't you believe me?"

being "in love" is that crazy intense "I can't stand to be apart from you. One more quickie before you go to work"

love is"Bye see you after work. Don't forget to pick up the dry cleaning"
