I seem to remember the names of the countries were carved into the wall but that the lettering was gold. I can't for the life of me figure out where I saw it so any help would be very gratefully received.

There are lots of war memorials in London...

The most recent are the Battle of Britain one by the Thames, the Commonwealth one near Buckingham Palace, The Australian one in Hyde Park and the New Zealand one at Hyde Park Corner

The most chilling one, for me is also near Hyde Park Corner. It is to the dead of the Machine Gun Corps in WW1.
It carries the biblical quotation 1 Samuel 18:7
"Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands."
