For a sum, they will annul a marriage.
They did it for my senator from MA.
He had 8 children from the marriage.
I would say that it was consummated.

You're not understanding the annulment process.
If two people want to call it quits and were married in the Catholic Church, they must get the marriage annulled. This starts an investigative process. What is investigated is whether or not the marriage sacrament was valid at the time the marriage began. There are a number of factors that figure into this, but if it is determined that no sacrament existed in the first place, than an annulment is granted and the two are free to marry elsewhere. However, if the sacrament WAS determined to be valid, then there is nothing that can be done. "...what God has bound together, let no man undo."
God bless.

An annulment is not the same as a divorce.
A divorce is the dissolving of a valid marriage. An annulment is a declaration that a valid marriage was never present between the two people.
Would you consider a marriage valid if the woman said that she was pregnant just to get the guy to marry her. Or if the guy who lies about himself so his fiance will marry him?

Uh, sweetie, it is supposed to be forever. That's why you go through Marriage prep classes with the priest first to make sure you're in love, this is right, and you know the road ahead. This takes anywhere from 6 months to a year before your wedding. And the priest can turn you down if he doesn't think you're ready or really in love.
The annullment process only got easier in recent years because humans are the ones divorcing. We still say, "Til death do us part", not "until I"m tired of this marriage".
And what makes you think only Catholics get divorced? Most of the divorced couples I know are pagan! All my Catholic friends are happily married with no plans to ever divorce!

It's not just the Catholic church. Everyone thinks marriage is permanent until they want a divorce. Have you ever know anyone who was planning on getting married who thought it was for only a year?

It is true that annulment is a pretty ugly way for catholics to escape the tenet of their religion about multiple marriages. Although there is theoretically some value in the notion of annulment, it is quite clearly abused by far too many, with the blessing of the church of course. Some might call that hypocritical. I won't call it hypocritical here. I will save that for another post.

Everyone? Wow. I know a lot of people who have been married only once, to the same person, for 10+ years. So where do you live that "everyone" gets divorced?

Yet another attempt by some version of the christian cult to get around some version of some stupid christian rule.
Marriage is and always has been a contract and divorce is a dissolution of that contract. There should be no need to bring religion into it.
If the catholic cult wants to believe that their annulments are a way for the church to recognize the dissolution of a marriage without calling it a divorce - who cares? If other protestant cults are willing to accept divorce - who cares? If still other protestant cults are willing to avoid getting a divorce because they think it will irritate their super being - who cares?
Just don't try to regulate my life based on your superstitions.

Yes, God hates divorce... That's why there's the Church of England... Because a priest wouldn't let some king get a divorce, so the king started his own religion.

First Catholics practice legalisms , most don't really know God at all but there are the few that have by God Grace seen thru the lies of the catholic church . Second , don't forget that we live in a fallen world . God forgives everyone who seeks
Jesus and ask in His Name . Jesus went to the Cross for just
that statement you have made because it is self righteous of
to say such a thing the way you have said it . Remember when we are sorry for our sins , we can trust God to forgive
us , but we shall still suffer the consequence of our sin .
