I don't like a fishy taste. Does this taste fishy?

Any stock or white wine will work (or even a good beer depending on what you are making) but if you want to stay in the 'seafood' vein - a good substitute would be clam juice which is readily available in most supermarkets.

"Fumet" is French for "Fish or Seafood Stock." It's only as fishy as the seafood used to make it. For a milder flavor, just sub chicken stock.
