That is a hard choice, I wouldn't buy either as they don't fit my needs. So, I'd go with which ever is cheaper and is in better condition. Both economy cars should last for quite a long time and not have many needed repairs. I know that VW isn't known for its quality, but the Golf is a pretty solid car. Hyundai of course is well known for being among the most reliable cars on the road. So, I think you need to test drive both and see which you like!

Are you serious? How long has Korea been rolling out anything that's as reliable as the Germans? I've owned 3 VWs in the last 10 years and love every one of them. I'd rather walk than own a Hyundai

For performance, handling, and quality, the Golf.
For reliability and low cost operations (in terms of monetary costs and time spent repairing), the Accent. The Elantra is a more appropriate vehicle to compare with the Golf. Both are compacts, whereas the Accent is a subcompact. The Accent should be compared with a Gol, Polo, or Fox.

VW. The Hyundai will die after 100 thousand miles. VWs go forever.
