Yea, cats are nocturnal. I'd be more concerned about the cat pooping in your garden.

This is a pretty good question, because opinions are so divided.

The facts are: cats are nocturnal, and it is natural for them to be out and about during the night.

The opinions are: when you take on a domesticated animal, how much of it's natural behaviour do you let it express? How do you find a balance between what makes the animal happy, and what is good for it?

Personally, I think cats should be allowed out whenever they like, in low risk areas, i.e. in the countryside, away from roads or areas with a lot of predators. I live in a very safe area - no busy roads, just a few foxes really. I had my cat for 18 years, and she was very much an outdoor cat, including most nights, even in the winter. If she wanted to be inside, she was let inside - more often as she got older.

There are always risks when you let animals outside - just as there are always risks for us when we go out! How many risks do you try to take precautions for before it just gets silly? After all you can't wrap pets up in cotton wool and keep them safe forever - just like you can't with children!

If your neighbour's cat is neutered, you live in a decent area and it has access to all the food and shelter it needs, I would say there isn't a problem.

Tell your neighbor:
A great way to get your cat eaten by the local coyote or fox.

Then ask your neighbor:
Is your cat a HOUSE cat ... a PET. Keep it indoors, and let it out on a harness and leash. It'll stay out of trouble, stay healthier, not use your neighbor's gardens as it's personal litter box,
AND
Domestic cats are the #1 killer of song birds.

No, cats shouldn't be outside. Inside cats live 14-20 years, and outside cats like 3-5 years.

I really feel that cats should be brought in at night. They can inadvertently get into too much trouble. For one thing, opossums, foxes, coyotes and other critters also come out at night and could attack the cat. The cat could get caught on something and there would be no one around to rescue it. If it's a black cat, it could be hit by a car. I know that my cat prefers a nice, warm cozy bed to sleep in at night. He would HATE being out in the cold or the rain.

Some people have no heart. Leaving a cat out day and night is not good. There is a chance they can be attacked by other cats, dogs or even a fisher cat (a wild cat that will kill other cats). I would be afraid that they will be run over by a car. Talk to your neighbor and voice your concerns, but don't be pushy. Good Luck.

it truly is hard to declare if she would be waiting to be ok or no longer. If she isn't used to the exterior, she ought to be puzzled & uncertain a thank you to define her way domicile. Ask around the community to make certain if all people has seen her. examine with the interior of reach shelters to make certain if all people grew to become her in as a stray. maximum shelters do no longer save animals very long, so it truly is had to touch them every day. Does she have a collar & tags so as that human beings will comprehend she belongs someplace? the possibilities of a puppy being returned to its proprietor are lots greater effective if she is wearing a collar & tags. Animals with out collar &tags are greater probable to be seen strays. placed some nutrients out on the porch, that could capture her returned domicile. If she is in warmth, she is maximum probable finding for a male & will maximum probable be pregnant IF she comes domicile. Get her to the vet, get her spayed as quickly as conceivable. IF there is an threat she would be waiting to be going exterior, get her microchipped. that's executed on the comparable time by fact the spay surgical operation & will develop her possibilities of being returned. The longer a cat maintains to be lacking, the fewer risk she would be waiting to come back domicile. autos, different animals, people who do unlike animals, etc make existence very risky for cats. solid luck.

allot of people put their cats out for the night. i personally don't like this. they tend to fight, get injuries and are more likely to stray.but everyone is different and care for their cats differently. everyone has an opinion on this.
i would check the cats OK though if it doesn't move!?!
