Mainly, a lot of people ask for specific bible verses when they ask a question, or the asker wants evidence....
...but religion is mainly about beliefs, so the holy book is used as one of the only pieces of evidence.

You may know the scriptures, but from your response you do not know the One that scripture points too. Ok I understand if some people quote the Bible that does not mean they are living what it teaches, however, if a question is asked that would point to needing proof of what God said, why would we not quote scripture? And one thing- why does it bother you so much, unless you are being convicted of something? If you do not believe, why should it bother what others do. If you wanted info on a person in history- let us say George Washington you would go to a book about George. Even though you did not live at the time of George Washington and you cannot prove that this is who he was, would you make such a big point about quoting just a history book of course not. It is the Word of God and it convicts hearts, no matter if you accept that or not.

Why not, it is a symbol of his faith. Scripture says that the Bible is foolishness to those that are perishing....
and those that think they are wise become fools...
sure theologians quote it differently, no one will have the correct answers until we get to heaven, up there they aren't going to have separate rooms for the Baptist, Church of God, or any other denominations, all of those that have accepted Christ as their personal saviour and serve Him to the best of their ability will all be together....
At least by quoting scripture you know that someone is reading their Bible.
I know that Bush is a man of prayer, many are not aware that he has gone in and prayed with wounded soldiers, but you will never hear that on the news.

...I disagree with you - we don't all know them. Many non-Christians are very ignorant of what the Bible says. And sadly, too many professing Christians are ignorant of the Bible and/or ignore what the Scripture says.
...Opinions are like noses, everybody's got one, but what is most important is what God's Word declares. The Bible is God's guidebook for life and the only authority. If quoting God's authority for life and practice disturbs you, may I remind you of what Jesus said?
...In Luke 9:26 we read: "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels."
...I invite you to tell the Lord you are irritated by hearing His word; do you think He will be pleased?
...It is His word "that is the power for salvation, to the Jew first and also to the Greek", we are told in Romans 1:16.
...I will agree that God expects us to walk the walk, but His word is what is powerful, and without it, I will never lead anyone to Christ, so when I give my testimony and use my story plus verses. I also go to proof texts to make points, at times.
...Tell me which verses you are having trouble with...I dare say this is just general quote which is convenient for use.
...If you believe 2 Timothy 3:16 as you claim to, how smart is it to push people to ignore it? It isn't!
...No one I know of pretends to be God, but God has given His word, to be our authority for life and practice.
...You need to be careful you do not discourage others in their spiritual lives, from looking at the Scriptures and studying out and finding proof texts for their beliefs.
...I hope and pray you do not subscribe to any new revelation (that would indicate a cult).

throughout my childhood and teenage years i did not care about religion whatsoever and out of the blue very recently i started becoming interested in it. I can still be open minded and listen to other explanations on things; in general and I can also make my personal conclusions but at the end of the day I believe in the essentials of the Bible , I may judge a religion but not the bible itself. But think about this too...everyone has something or someone influencing them or triggering their mind to think in a certain way as a major foundation to some people it's a certain religion to others it's political other's it's science and so on. Everyone is influenced by something but no one will criticze them harshly as they judge religion, because everyone will always be against the one thing that is strict. We will find one thousand ways to excuse our ways to keep doing the things we like so we don't go through guilt-trips.

Intentions aside, the only outcome of unrequested bible quotes is to annoy non-christians. This is very clear. It is incomprehensible to me why they continue to do it.
I think it was Paul who said (take good note that I am paraphrasing, not quoting) something along the lines that you have to meet people where they are in order to talk to them about god, and this is commonsense too. If where they are is hating repetititve and thoughtless bible quoting, then bible quoting is - at least in this instance - unscriptural.
One answerer said that if you don't listen to the word you perish. If that is what you believe, then shouldn't you speak the word in a way that makes sure I am listening rather than a way that makes sure I am too irritated to listen?
If the bible is the living word of god, and you need to have a relationship with god to truly understand it, then it is has to be illogical and meaningless to quote it to non-christians.

just my opinion
for me quoting a Bible word/s is just simply saying that the thought, was a thought solely given by God and to God ma be its glory.
every people could speak of personal testimonies, but when it comes to answering questions that needs a factual basis, a lifestyle of a chatter could never be valid at once for the one who asked the question, for he didn't know the way of living of the said person in reality basis, while quoting a bible word is just presenting the teaching(you both believe in) that may support the other explanations contributed by a certain person.

People with Parrot knowing quotes scriptures.
After a direct taste of knowing scriptures serve no purpose.
Knowledge is like soap, after knowing it requires washing off.
Tightly Holding on to knowledge of scriptures only slows the spiritual progress.

I tend to agree with you about the use of scripture UNLESS the question is asked by another Christian or Someone who is open for scripture, needing help or seeking

I wonder if perhaps you are projecting...what you accuse others of, you actually do yourself.
It is clear to me that while you may be able to quote scripture, you certainly haven't grasped it entirely. If you had, you would not at all mind hearing it or reading it.
