My personal favorite is like Thanksgiving on a roll. Chunks of turkey (you don't use thin sliced deli meat for this one) cranberry sauce, stuffing, and a little tiny bit of mayo. Heaven on a long roll! And since it's an American holiday, it might not be done yet.

Here in London by far the most successful sandwich chain is Pret a' Manger. The most popular that they sell, which I have to admit that I like too is Mature cheddar swith Pret pickles which is a version this last of Branston Pickles and in this sandwich they put also some sort of lettuce. All sandwiches with pickles anyway such as cheese and onions and pickles are very popular. Other popular ones at Pret a' Manger are tuna and mayonnase which they call Classic Tuna; Chicken and avocado, Smoked Salmon; tomatoes, salad and mozzarella and they also do one with crayfish and rocket. You can also make a mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes which is nice. Perhaps either your parents or you should make a trip to London to study the Pret a Manger formula to get some good ideas. They seem to have created a perfect sandwich shop and they are making handsome profits. It's always good to make some market researches beforehand when starting a business and you have started well by asking this question. In all cases when running a sandwich place is always better to keep your sandwiches simple and healthy rather than go for extravagant and too fanciful stuff. In Pret a Manger they also have reduced calories and fat sandwhiches that can be a good idea depending on the sort of clients that you are aming at. Best of luck to your parents!

In the States they call a hotdog a sandwich and it's the most popular (FYI). But, I'd suggest a Reuben. The Germans don't know it, but they should, but then again their bread is SO hard it only makes a one-slice sandwich with a finger hooked over the top to hold the ingredients.

My kind of Rueben is Jewish Rye or a soft pumpernickle, fried in the pan with butter to toast, saurkraut, swiss and thin sliced ham with a sharp mustard and horseraddish condiment. Love it occasionally, and if you succeed listing this one, I might be by bye-and-bye to try it and to try whatever Roast Beef on Wholewheat you got.

Don't know about favourite worldwide, but when working in the city, many sandwich bars' requests included Crispy bacon and advocado (with or without mayo), and peanut butter and banana...

My favourite is salt beef/english mustard on white with a sliced dill pickle...

Big fan of toasted sandwiches myself, often going for a variation on a Tuna melt. I have no name for it ... maybe Tunny-Melt ...

Tuna, mixed with Worcester Sauce and mayonaise, sprinkling of strong nutty cheese, Emmental is a good option .... then thrown under a grill for 10 mins .... Gorgeous.

My favorite sandwich is any kind of panini. Particularly a veggie panini with grilled eggplant, roasted red bell pepper, feta cheese, pesto mayo, sundried tomato pesto, red onion, and balsamic glaze on focaccia bread.
