It seems that whenever I'm on deadline at work and everything seems to be going wrong my eye twitches (usually the left one.) Actually, it's the muscle under the eye. What causes this?

Its a nerve twitching.
They are common and can occur above and under both eyes.
This is a sign of stress and tiredness.
To avoid this you need to unsure that you get enough sleep and dont let things get on top of you.

Don't know why it happens, but it happens to me too!! And the exact same eye - the left one! Weird. Are you my lost twin??

My understanding is that its just random electrical discharges in the brain. When you're stressed, the brain is overwhelmed and crosses its signals. Other people I have talked to get twitches in their thumbs or legs when stressed. Same idea though.

It is common, especially when people are not getting enough sleep.
Maybe your stress is causing you to not sleep well at night.
It's the body's way of saying "Dude! Get some rest!"
