It's not a date number but rather a code that the camera uses to distinguish one photo from another and so that hopefully you will be able to find it again, using the number.

It's nothing to be concerned about it's just an arbitrary code but it works for the camera and technology, so you can 'go with the flow'.

Hi Mira. I just got a new digital camera but I learned a lot from watching a friend of mine use hers. I know it can be a hassel when you transfer the pics to your pc...but mine always puts the new pics in a folder with numbers to identify them. I usually take the time to go through the folder and right click on the pics and rename them. This makes it easier for me to find pictures that I want to send out or mess with on my photo shop program. I've never gotten a number that is as long as the one you asked about but I think like the rest of the ppl who answered....that is either a code for the pc to work with and maybe the date is in there too. Anyway have a blast with your pics....I am using Windows Movie Maker to make some still slide shows with music to them to send to family and friends.

Often, it's just a random number generated by the camera. If you get a relatively inexpensive program like Photoshop Elements ($99.00) you can rename all your photos when you download them into your computer.

For instance, say you took pictures at a party at your friend Jana's house, when you download, it will let you put in the prefix of your choice, and then it will assign a sequential number to each photo. Then, your photos will be named, Janas Party 001, Janas Party 002, Janas Party 003, etc.

Cameras usually name a photo by the date it was taken and a code number before or after the date; in this case it seems to be 01/03/2007 (date) and 066 (photo code number)

Hope I helped :)

I usually change the camera code number to a name that has something to do with the content of the picture! ;-)=

I recommand you to use picasa to organize and edit your pictures.

Picasa is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you had) and sorts them into visual albums organized by date with folder names you will recognize. You can drag and drop to arrange your albums and make labels to create new groups. Picasa makes sure your pictures are always organized.

Picasa also makes advanced editing simple by putting one-click fixes and powerful effects at your fingertips. And Picasa makes it a snap to share your pictures ¨C you can email, print photos at home, make gift CDs, instantly share via Hello™, and even post pictures on your own blog.

Usually it is the date, at least it is on mine. You can usually change it by right clicking and clicking "rename".
