I have a pregnant dog. I have asked two different vets whether or not i should give a multi vitamin to her. one vet said i should start to give her a multi vitamin at 5 weeks of pregnancy. the other vet said no that when you give a pregnant dog a multi vitamin it could make them hypoglycemic. i have no idea what to do i have two vets telling me two totally different things. if someone has any advice i would appreciate it.

We recommend that you not give a pregnant dog any vitamin supplement because you can never be sure how the ingredients will affect the developing pups. Instead, make sure her diet is as good as you can make it. Add fresh veggies and fruit for trace minerals and vitatims, and meat for extra protien. Do NOT give her milk or calcium supplements. Her body is already generating enough calcium, and if you give her too much it can adversely affect her pups.

If your dog is on a decent diet, there should be absolutely no need for supplements. Vets may have differing opinion on this, because they all have different experiences. I think most will agree however that supplementing a pregnant dog SHOULDN'T be necessary - and could potentially cause further problems. If the dog's on a good diet, supplements will only cause an overdose of vitamins, which can cause illnesses. You can have too much of a good thing!

I was advised by a vet I would trust about absolutely anything not to give pregnant dogs vitamins until the puppies are born. Giving them vitamins while pregnant will increase the size of the puppies, hence making delivery harder on the mom. Made sense to me so I've never done it until the puppies were born which is when the mom needs the most help.

NO!

Why change her diet now?

Dogs are not like humans. IF you give her a mutli-vitamin and she has a reaction to the ingrediants, what do you think will happen to the puppies? Leave he alone, she does not need extra calcium or Vitamin E. If she is a dog on medicines for other things, then you need to talk to the vet about it.
Otherwise let her alone.

Why should your dog take multi-vitamins while you're pregnant. You need them, not her...LOL .................Seriously, though,it's too late to try to be a responsible caring owner now; you should have done that before she got pregnant by responsibly having her spayed. Shame, Shame, Shame!!! If she's not too far along (62 days full term) have the vet abort/spay her ASAP! If you can't do that, at least let the vet do the prenatal stuff, and let HIM give her what she needs. Papaw

If your dog is on a good quality diet, there should be no need for any nutritional supplement. I feel that if you keep things as they are, you'll probably be fine. Adding vitamins might or might not cause adverse reactions. Why risk the chance?

I'm doing basic obedience right now. My trainer hasn't once handled my dog. He has shown me how to handle my dog by using his own dog but that's about it. The reasoning is that I need to learn how to do these basic corrections and what not myself. Learn more https://tinyurl.im/3QU1T

I have never considered sending my dog away for training. I guess I haven't found that much of a problem with him to even think about it.

Again, it may also have to do with the level of training you are looking for etc. No idea lol. I'm not a trainer. I think a first time dog owner needs to learn simple commands and how to handle their dog themselves as well.
