Propranolol (the active in Inderal) is used to prevent migraines, particularly in patients who have them frequently or have severe attacks with long duration. It may not eliminate the headaches completely, but can reduce the frequency or intensity of them. Sometimes doses up to 240 mg/day are needed before relief is provided, and it may take 3-4 weeks before you see any effect. This is why your neurologist recommends that you stay on the medication. He may increase the dose after that period if you are still having the same amount/intensity of headaches as before you started the therapy. An extended release version of the drug, Inderal LA, is available for convenient once-a-day dosing.

Whatever you do, don't stop the medicine immediately without consulting your doctor. I don't know the risk after being on the medication for a short period of time (2 weeks), but sudden discontinuation of the drug can effect the heart rhythm of patients who are sensitive to it.

Inderal, a type of medication known as a beta blocker, is used in the treatment of high blood pressure, angina pectoris (chest pain, usually caused by lack of oxygen to the heart due to clogged arteries), changes in heart rhythm, prevention of migraine headache, hereditary tremors, hypertrophic subaortic stenosis (a condition related to exertional angina), and tumors of the adrenal gland. It is also used to reduce the risk of death from recurring heart attack. InnoPran XL is used to treat high blood pressure.

When Inderal and InnoPran XL are used for the treatment of high blood pressure, they are effective alone or combined with other high blood pressure medications, particularly thiazide-type diuretics. Beta blockers decrease the force and rate of heart contractions, reducing the heart's demand for oxygen and lowering blood pressure.
Headache is not caused by Inderal
