do you think Jesus suffered as much as was portrayed in the passion of christ? the film really made me think and made me see things in a very different way.

The movie was probably nothing compared to real life. Jesus must had suffered even more....almost all other religion's prophet suffered alot, if we think abt it, all other religion are connected to each other somehow....tht made me see things in a different way...y r they so similar, yet they are different....

Actually, Christ suffered far worse than what was portrayed in the movie. Although, it was a good portrayal. It was great for a basic idea of how it happened. But the pain Christ endured not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. The spiritual pain was probably the worst thing to suffer because of taking on the burden of sin from everyone who ever lived and will ever live.

I think He did suffer greatly, but I do think that it was portrayed as much bloodier than it was. Especially when He was whipped ... unfortunately I've seen the real effects of a whipping with a cat-o-nine bullwhip and it was not as bloody as Mel Gibson portrayed in the movie.

What really confused me the most was that all those people stood by and allowed it to happen. Even if you thought the person a murderer (in other words, not Jesus, but just some other person), would you stand by and allow someone to be thus treated?

Perhaps in this day and age we are more into fairness, but I had to wonder about the people in that day ... were they truly that evil?

We watched it over a few weeks at Sunday school during Lent, so we skipped a lot of the violence. There wasn't a dry eye in the room for the violent parts we did watch.

The thing that got to me, wasn't the physical violence, the whippings, beatings, etc. Think about it, that happened everywhere, all the time and in some societies, scourging and torture are still acceptable. That doesn't make it any easier to watch though.

The emotional, psychological anguish shown at the beginning when he is in the garden is what got to me. The anguish of knowing man is going to do bad things no matter what, and that he was going to pay the debt for all of us. Of course, that's just the way I look at things. That is what gets me thinking, and yes, emotionally and psychologically, I think he suffered as much as was portrayed.

Probably even more...It really touched me..My wife and I went to see it here in the Philippines the first day it came out, the house was packed...and by the time it was over I don't think there was a dry eye..(including ours) and during the movie we could hear weeping (including each other) very dear, very good, (and I have been in the ministry for many years and don't think anything has touched me as much as that movie)

I just wish they would do what they did with the Jesus film and translate it into other languages

Suffering is real but there is no way to know whether Jesus did suffered as much or not as much as was portrayed. We cannot accept Christianity's god just because there was a dramatic event.

First off you need to know that Jesus is who He says he was to understand how much He suffered for us. He suffered great pain in the garden of Gethsemane even more than His suffering on His path to Crucifixion. Can you just imagine being beaten to a fraction of your life then scourged and crowned with thorns paraded around the roman soldiers, spat upon, laughed at, and brutally mistreated as He was. Jesus is the son of god and He suffered greatly for us all. finally someone had the guts to stand up and bring to reality the brutality of the Romans and the way they killed those whom they felt were a threat to them. Jesus suffered greatly for us that we may be saved if we just believe in Him and follow His example. Just think how much peace there would be in the world today if we only would follow His council. In answer to your question, we can't even imagine what He suffered, more than the human mind can even imagine.

Mel Gibson definitely did his homework for the Passion. The portrayel was very accurate. Jesus' physical pain was far greater than anything most of us will ever be called upon to endure; crucifixion was widely seen as the cruelest method of execution. And His emotional and mental suffering must have been just as intense. The Bible says, "He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering" (Isaiah 53:3).

But far greater than either of these was Christ's spiritual suffering because all the sins of the world were placed on Him, and He endured the punishment and Hell we deserve. He was the divine Son of God, and from all eternity He had known nothing but unbroken fellowship with His Father. But on the cross that fellowship was broken. No wonder He cried out, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34).

Don't ever take lightly what it cost Jesus Christ to purchase your salvation. His physical and emotional sufferings were only indications of a far deeper suffering—the suffering of His soul for you and me.

Why did He do it? He did it for one reason: because He loves us. We don't deserve it, but He loves us anyway. The Bible says, "This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins" (1 John 4:10). Have you responded to His love by giving your life to Him?

While there were something things in the movie that were somewhat innaccurate, the amount of suffering that it showed was realistic. If anything, it was less then the real thing. Not all of the abuses the Bible listed where included in the film.

Remember, this was an execution designed to humilitate the victim and make it so horrible that none of those witnessing it would want to repeat the crime.

I haven't seen the film - I find it too nauseating to watch even a Hollywood simulation of such incredible suffering - but yes, I suspect he did. As did the myriad of other people put to death in this barberic manner. Crucifixion was designed not only to take a life, but to do so in the most excruciating way imaginable. Not to mention the fact that, if the biblical account is to be believed, he was experiencing this pain because one of his best friends sold him out.
