Should the Gayatri Mantra be classified as part of science?

Should the gayatri mantra be classified as part of science and should it be better utilised to combat India's environmental and poverty related problems?

The Gayatri mantra though does produce supernatural results is not supposed to be used to combat enivironmental ,etc problems. It is a sacred mantra chanted by Brahma to worship the Supreme Lord - Sri Krishna. This is evident in the Brahma Samita.

It is used for worship only. The Gayatri mantra's main purpose is to allow us to reach the supreme. The other benefits are good health, prosperity, wealth are gitfted automatically upon the chanter. The benefits pertain only to the chanter and his family. It does not help the society at large.

Only yagnas benefit the society as a whole. That to when conducted properly and according to Vedic rules and regulations. Recently around three years back the Kanchi mutt conducted a yagna in Chennai to yeild rain by pleasing Indra. It was a time when Tamil Nadu was under severe drought. And yes, after a span of nearly five years of deficient rain torrential rains with floods arrived the next year completely erradicating the drought.

Also there are different types of Gayatri mantras. The most known Gayatri mantra today is the Surya Gayatri mantra worshipping the Sun God Surya a manifestation of Lord Vishnu.

The gayatri mantra hence cannot be used to erradicate poverty and similar socially related problems. The best thing to do is to conduct yagnasfor they do benefit the society and yield positive results.

Your question presupposes things that are not substantiated by independent scientific research. It only shows your reverent attitude to it. Gayatri mantra is said to create some energy equations and is believed to have some magical powers, too but it's most unlikely that people from different faiths should believe it. Such a great time is yet to come in the history of humanity when people from different faiths prepare themselves mentally and morally to accept or even kindly examine things of an alien faith. Gayatri mantra may not be classified as a part of science today but it deserves some scientific probe in the future to decide truth from belief.
