"And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh."
Ephesians 2:16-17

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law."
Matthew 10:34-35

This is not intended to be a mockery. However, one can see Very Clearly that there are various inconsistencies throughout the Bible. How then, can one consider the Bible, word of God ?

Bible is the work of man. But Holy Prophet Jesus (pbuh) cannot be blamed for whatever is there. It was written more than 200 years after he left the world. I believe that as a messenger of God, he came to spread peace and the message of unity of God.

There is no inconsistency here. Look closer at Matthew 10:34-35. Now read verses 37-39 which you left off. It is the good news of God's kingdom that separates and divides the people - even close family members from each other. Why? Because of the way they respond to the teaching. Remember Jesus' family? Recall Mark 3:21. They thought to themselves as respects Jesus: "This boy has lost his ever-loving mind!" With the exception of his mother, his brothers and sisters were not putting faith in his word.

Eventually, of course, they became believers. Yet during the time that they were not, there was a division - a separation, yes?

One can see very clearly then that, rather than there being 'various inconsistencies' throughout the Bible, it is quite harmonious. One need only look a bit deeper instead of giving the scriptures a mere cursory glance.

I'm not sure if people have done a lot of research into how our brain uses words, let alone whether there is any method of textual analysis which would look beyond the way these are translated into English, although I can see an obvious explanation for myself already.

We can get a clue from the description of God's love for the Jews in Romans 11:28. It was the patriarchal system that was keeping everything in place. It was in the context of the family that he did not come to bring peace. Instead of the old system where families warred against each other in order to try to keep the innards of the family in good order, Jesus came to acknowledge that problems occur in families and it would now be each one for themselves. That's why we have the sword of the Spirit - God's word. Family members can go sword-fighting with each other this way. This is supposed to, when properly applied, bring peace to all those who accept this. It's supposed to be a method of bringing families together as well, but it might take a bit more faith and patience to see that it works better for each one to know what they think than to try to enforce compliance.

It's not a mockery; it's a good question. He did come to preach peace - between God and man and between man and man. But that peace is only possible through Christ. How can you have peace if you reject the Prince of Peace??? One scripture says that He IS the peace! And the warfare is against those who reject Him. Not the warfare of guns and bullets, but the warfare of a godly life that convicts those who refuse to repent just by the example the gody set. Remember, Jesus was the exact representation of God's character, without sin, and yet He was hated by some and ultimately crucified.
As for the "contradictions"? Keep asking and digging. When I do, I get a deeper understanding. Good luck and God BLESS!

Ep2:16,17 talks about Jesus reconciling men with God and brought peace between men and God in the vertical relationship. But those who accept Jesus as Savior will face problems and enimity with their non-believing relatives as mentioned in Matt 10:34,35 in the horizontal relationship. The belief and acceptance of the sword (God's word) by a believer canl separate him from his other family members. Peace in the vertical relationship can bring war in the horizontal relationship! This bears out in the real life of many Christians. There is no inconsistency at all.

There are no inconsistencies. Ony seemingly are therre any, & only then when Scriptures are taken out of context, like you have done.

" The Be·roe′ans were noble-minded, for they received the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so." Acts 17:10,11

Sword of actuality expensive. people who refuse genuine discipleship with the Lord will adventure super loss. some might have a curse upon them and don't have self assurance who's the genuine Christ. Many will turn against one yet another in Tribulation circumstances. Many will reject Christ. some will turn of their own kin, because of the fact they're deceived by using the AntiChrist. The AntiChrist will come on the 6th Trumpet, claiming peace and claiming to be Jesus. Jesus returns on the seventh Trumpet. for the period of that ingredient, families will turn against one yet another. Many would be believing that they are truthfully assisting their kin. Many would be deceived because of the fact they don't be attentive to that the AntiChrist will come 1st formerly Jesus returns. God's elect will take a stance against the AntiChrist and carry him at bay till Jesus returns.

You just look on this verse!!! oh you
That is wrong... here Jesus meant that everyone who is wicked and has the devil in his heart, then Jesus will do this to Him
Not because he doesn't want peace
Mohamed doesn't want peace yes.. because he encourages people to fight whilt Jesus is against fighting.

Go read the whole Bible first and then say that Jesus is didn't come to bring peace

Also He came to give you the peace in your herat not to the world..
The world is for the devil only.. so how could he give peace to devil?

The Bible is written by man but it is inspired by the Holy Spirit as given to man by God. Jesus was given to us by God so that we may have a better life through Him. Mat 10:34 is given to man to show that not all his problem are pf the devil but in his own house hold. Jesus came to preach love, through trust in Him, and if we are to make the world better, this is how it is to be. But do not believe IT is all roses being a follower of Christ. He wants to be number one in your life.

Level,
HE preached peace but HE was not believed by HIS People (Jewish) and HE was tortured, murdered, buried, arose, and ascended into heaven in the presence of many people. HIS message has been skewed by satan and has caused a number of people to be torn between following GOD and following satan. Hopefully at some point, you too will learn and follow our FATHER before it is too late. Grab a Bible and begin reading, studying, and following HIS WORD. You will be glad that you did. Have a great weekend.
Thanks,
Eds
