Kind of hard to type it, but the 'j' in French is much softer than we pronounce.
Try listening to the sound of the 'dge' in the word 'judge'
Then just listen to the end part of that sound.
It's more of a 'zgh'
So 'Ja' would sound like 'zghah'
I don't think there is a French word 'ja', but for example the word 'jamais' means 'never'. The 'mais' is pronounced 'mayh' Also French has no diphthongs, so when we say 'Y' it sounds like wi-e, but in French you cut the sound off before you dip your thong. As it were.

"ja" would be pronounced "zha" - "zh" is the same sound as the "s" in words like, "pleasure", "measure" and "leisure". However, I am not aware of the existence of a word "ja" in French..!
