I am a retired Army soldier. I have two daughters and no sons but have encouraged both of them at different times to go into the military for the discipline and training they can find. They both went to college and one works as a GS for the military and the other is married to a Navy rescue swimmer. I have recommended the military to the neighbors children and normally point out the differences between the services with the air force being the first choice due to their country club lifestyle. Depending on that your son wants to do and his determination to succeed, both the army and the marines have very good upward mobility as far as rank and responsibility is concerned. And I would recommend either to a son/daughter/niece/nephew.

Has he expressed an activity or is this some thing that you're feeling is optimal for him? Is there a justified reason to need to deliver him into militia life or do you in elementary words no longer want him round? You do comprehend for sure that the U.S. Armed facilities is sending forces over to Iraq, Afghanistan, South Korea, and different places all over the world that would placed his life in threat? possibly sending him to varsity can be a extra acceptable determination. both way, he's eighteen and it really is his determination. If serving his us of a is his interest and determination in life, then he will do this, if no longer he will discover yet another route.

If my son or daughter wanted to join the military, of course I would encourage them to join the Marines. I would be proud of them for following in my footsteps. I would, however, encourage them to go to college first and come in as an officer for the better pay and benefits, but if they chose not to, then so be it. Whatever my kids choose when it comes that time will be ok with me and I'll support them all the way. After all, they have to make their own decisions, and its our job as parents to back them, no matter what.

I'm not in anything, I'm 42 & a single mom with 2 teens 15 & 17. They are both talented, handsome,&smart. They don't need the military to be successful. But, they are both thinking about joining, different branches, but if thats what they want to do, I'll support them 110%!!! I don't want to lose my boys, but if thats what they decide I'll stand PROUDLY BESIDE THEM BOTH, ALL THE WAY!!! OUR TROOPS ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!

If he wanted to join and his mother didnt mind then i think it would be a great idea! You could still get to hang out with him, but both still be independent, and you'd have heaps in common, so yeah i think it sounds like a really cool idea actually!
