I have alot of AVI files on my computer which are a diffrent language .They all have english subtitles in a seperate .srt file and im wondering if you can compress the two.I know you can do this with virtualdub or something but I have a mac and virtualdub is only for windows.I have toast and i know how to do this on a datadisc but this only works for some movies and you can't fastfoward/backward.Is there a way i can compress the two into 1 AVI file?
Thanks,

AVI files are container files and inside are the codec, subtitle file and actual video file which could be a DivX video. Your idea of combining the two files seems odd. The srt file is like a text file that gives info to a video player about how long to show each subtitle text. If you want to add hard text to the clips of a video, you'll need to type it into a video editor but then it becomes part of the video and you can't choose different subtitle languages or to turn off the subtitles.

A better solution is to convert the old, abandoned style of AVI data into something usable on both your Mac and any Windows computer and that would be QuickTime. Then your srt file would play along with the video just as it should. Try DivX Doctor, link below, to convert the old-style AVI data to QuickTime. Use TitleLab (link below) to convert the subtitle file to one that you can edit for use with the QuickTime movie. Then you can even burn a DVD if you have a DVD burner in your Mac.
