The route is not particularly safe since just about 90 of the total 330 Kms of the trip are on motorways. The rest is mostly on mountain roads not that wide and the trip should take around 5 hours.
I've done this a 3 years ago starting from my home in Tuscany and going to Salzburg, very close to Zell am See; as far as I know nothing should be changed from then.

I've never made this particular drive, but I have used viamichelin.com for my European driving directions. They are really good for long distance directions (not as good for local directions). They will also estimate your fuel and toll costs. Try it out...
