I always fill out the first one single with 1 exemption, and never end up owing taxes. Say I make about 80K at the first job...and want another job...how can I fill out the W-4 at the second job so that I won't owe any taxes at the end of the year? I don't think I should file single-1 again because then it starts the progressive taxes all over, and from my first 80K I'm already in a higher bracket.

Go to www.paycheckcity.com Add both your gross incomes together as if they were one and calculate you taxes based on Single and 1. This will show you what would be taken out for federal (and state if applicable) for each pay or annually depending on how you choose to do it. Once you have the figures, deduct what is taken out from your regular pay. The difference is what should be deducted from your secondary job.

Redo the calculations just for the secondary job based on single and 0, see what amount should be deducted, subtract this from the balance of above. The remainder should be the additional amount deducted from your 2nd job on your W-4

You might want to have BOTH paychecks at 0 exemptions. Almost everyone I know who has worked two jobs always gets screwed at tax time, but with 0 exemptions on both payrolls that should mitigate the problem a bit.

Single zero, and if you're going to make very much from the second job, more than a couple thousand dollars, you probably need to have additional money withheld from one or the other to avoid having to pay at tax time.
