No 2/5 is bigger.
1/3 is the same as 5/15 and 2/5 is the same as 6/15 therefore 2/5 is 1/15 bigger than 1/3.

1) 114/16 = (114/2) / (16/2) = 57/8 2) Finding a common denominator, 5 * 12 = 60. So, (3 * 12) / 60 - (11 * 5) / 6, giving you (36 / 60) - (55 / 60) = -19 / 60 3) 3.46 approx. 4) I think you are writing it as this: (24 / (3^2)) / (8-5) - - 5 (24 / 9) / 8 = 24 / (9 * 8) = 1/3 5) If you are writing it as (x/4) - 6 = 1, then (x / 4 = 7 x = 7 * 4 = 28 6) 2x - 5x = 9 -3x = 9 x = -3 7) 1/2 (2x - 6y + 8) Distributing, x - 3y + 4 8) 9n - 3 (2n - 1) = 15 Distributing, 18n^2 - 9n + 6n + 3 18n^2 -3n + 3 = 15 18n^2 - 3n - 12 Using quadratic formula, (3 +/- sqrt(9 - 4(18 * -12)))/ 36 An exact answer would be: (3 + sqrt(873)) / 36 or (3 - sqrt(873)) / 36 Which is approximately equal to .9047 or -.7374. 9) x + y = 15 3x - 1 = y x + (3x - 1) = 15 4x - 1 = 15 4x = 16, x = 4 4 + y = 15 y = 11 10) You answered your own question: you said "find the cost per ounce of a sunscreen made from 100oz of a lotion that costs 2.50 per ounce"; therefore it costs 2.50 an ounce. The same thing with the other one; it costs 4.00 an ounce. ps: I'm a math major in college.

No because if you give both a common LCM of 15 you get 1/3 = 5/15 and 2/5 equals 6/15 and hence, 5/15 is not bigger than 6/15.
Got it I hope.

Give them both a common denominator...ie 15
1/3,2/6,3/9,4/12,5/15.........1/3 is the same as 5/15
2/5,4/10/6/15.......................2/5 is the same as 6/15
Your answer is NO 1/3 is smaller than 2/5
