I am disabled and me and my new husband want to have a baby:} However I have not had a period in over a year? I have a chronic illness but am ok to have Kidsa. I do take methadone as prescribed my pain specialist. Could this stopping of my period be caused by my medication or something else? I am 33years old . Could this be my medication or can a doctor start my period. This is concerning me if I can have a baby or not?

I do have one so he is 13 and my husband has a 5 year old son. We want atleast one together but if not we love each other just the same. We just met late in life and love to have a child together.

This is something I would certainly go see a doctor about. At 33 time is running out for you, and with your disability and chronic illness, the sooner you have your baby the better. You have not said whether it would be your first child, but this would also have to be factored into your "now" decision. Good luck.

Methadone Side Effects::::Only 4 of the 15 women in the West Philadelphia study had regular menstrual periods while on heroin; 12 of the 15 had regular menstrual periods on methadone maintenance. Of the 3 exceptions, one had periods longer than normal, one had periods shorter than normal, and one did not menstruate. 6 Such variations are to be expected, of course, in any group of women. The high rate of improvement suggests that while heroin addiction and its accompanying life-style (often including prostitution) may impair menstrual function, permanent damage is rare.

Taking Methadone during pregnancy? Are you sure you want to do that and risk having a baby that has birth defects or mental problems? If it were I, I would try to get off all medications (for the sake of the baby! Their little & their systems are not like ours) Take to your doctor about weaning you off meds, and before doing that check on alternative pain treatment (hypnosis, accupuncture, etc....surf the web) and make sure to take prenatal vitamins a couple of months before getting pregnant so all your nutrients are there in place for your developing baby. FYI....the babies heart starts beating at 2 weeks of pregnancy (an interesting fact I learned w/my last pregnancy I thought that was sooooo cool!)....

Don't trust all doctors, their trained and they learn from reports and studies. You can do a study yourself on the net, go to different website and find out information for yourself. There are to many cases to even think about, where doctors have said that "Oh it's ok to take that medication while your pregnant!".....even mine told me I could keep taking an anti-depressant, but I wasn't buying that and went off of the medication.

Remember the child that is the result of your pregnancy is who you will deal with for the rest of your life. Give him/her a fighting chance. Hyperactivity disorders can cause allot fo problems, and something that seem so not important could cause you a lot of problems in the future as well as your offspring. Be wise and take the high road in your journey!

I think you should go and see your doc ASAP!

Having no periods could be because of your illness ,but its important too find out why as this could deffinatly have an impact on having children.

Its really encouraging too hear that your trying for a baby and i wish you all the best.

It could be related to your medication but the only way to find out for sure is to get in touch with your dr to see what they think about this.
